ALTHOUGH Sam Smith earned a round of applause at the Oscar ceremony, he claims his performance of Writing’s on the Wall wasn’t that great.

“It was the worst moment of my life,” the 23-year-old revealed to the BBC about his James Bond theme song.

“Singing was horrible. I hated every minute.”

Smith’s comments aren’t too surprising given he told talk show host Graham Norton last year just how horrible the song is to sing.

“I’ve only actually sung the song once, really,” he said.

“Because I did the demo in the studio, and they used that. It is horrible to sing ... It’s just so high. I have to grab my balls; it’s awful.”

He later won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. During his acceptance speech, Smith suggested he was the first openly gay person to win an Oscar.

Social media slammed him naming several other gay winners including Elton John and Stephen Sondheim.

Fellow Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black too aim at Smith saying, “Hey @SamSmithWorld, if you have no idea who I am, it may be time to stop texting my fiance.”

Black won Best Original Screenplay for Milk in 2009 and is engaged to 21-year-old Olympic diver Tom Daley.
