Oscar nominations reactions: ‘Are you allowed to say f**k?’

EMMA Stone swore and Julianne Moore could ‘barely breathe’. Here’s how the stars reacted to their Oscar nominations.

'Dick Poop' nominated for an Oscar

“ARE you allowed to say f**k when you’re making a statement for the Oscars?”

Yes you are Emma Stone!

The actress was just one of many stars who rejoiced in the news of their Oscar nomination overnight, but perhaps the best reaction was from The Lego Movie’s director Phillip Lord who was snubbed by the Academy.

Here’s what he and other stars had to say about the nominations:

Eddie Redmayne — Actor in a Leading Role — The Theory of Everything:

“I cannot tell you how surreal this is. I’ve literally gone from an incredibly deep sleep to a 100 mile an hour insane euphoria in about three seconds — so I have no idea what planet I’m on.

“I wasn’t watching like everyone else, I’m in Los Angeles and I was asleep and there’s suddenly this wrap on the door and I was in pitch black and I stumble towards the door and it was my manager Jason who was staying at the same hotel with this wonderful group of people who were all on the phone who I’ve been working with for years and there was just this eclectic company of screaming going on on the phone.”

Benedict Cumberbatch — Actor in a Leading Role — The Imitation Game:

“So excited and honoured to receive this recognition. It’s wonderful to be included by the Academy in this exceptional year of performances. To ring my parents who are both actors and tell them that their only son has been nominated for an Oscar is one of the proudest moments of my life.”

Ethan Hawke — Actor in a Supporting Role — Boyhood:

“There are many reasons why this nomination means so much to me. As I get older, I realise the only thing any artist wants is the respect of others who have dedicated their lives to same goals we have. I am so grateful to the members of the Academy for recognising such a long labour of love. The uniqueness of BOYHOOD is not lost on any of us involved; I never have and never will be associated with an artistic endeavour that was as unique in its DNA. I am so thankful for this collaboration with Rick, Patricia, Ellar and Lorelai. Truly.”

Emma Stone — Actress in a Supporting Role — Birdman:

“Well, this is surreal ... Thank you to the Academy for this incredible honour. I am very proud and lucky to be a part of ‘Birdman’ and can’t believe it came to this. I am so f***ing excited. Are you allowed to say f**k when you’re making a statement for the Oscars? I’m just really f***ing excited.”

Bradley Cooper — Actor in a Leading Role — American Sniper:

“This is a tribute to Chris Kyle, his family, and all of the service men and women who sacrifice their lives for their countries and their families. It is a privilege and an honour to play Chris and I share this with Sienna [Miller], Clint [Eastwood], Jason Hall, the rest of SEAL team three, and everyone involved with the film.”

Michael Keaton — Actor in a Leading Role — Birdman:

“Humbled, thankful and more than anything, grateful. So, so happy that Alejandro and the cast and crew are getting recognised. I am proud to be a part of such a bold, gutsy and daring experiment that is Birdman. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am going to try as best I can and see if I can wipe this smile off my face. Wish me luck.”

Wes Anderson — Directing — The Grand Budapest Hotel:

“I’ve been asked to make a ‘statement’ even though I feel it does sound more like bragging. Nevertheless, my producers and I send our very deepest thanks to the Academy and its 8,000 members for a whole slew of Oscar nominations, especially for my long-time collaborators Robert Yeoman (our cinematographer who has worked with me on seven movies, if I count them right), Milena Canonero (our Italian costume designer), Alexandre Desplat (our French composer), Barney Pilling (our English editor), Frances Hannon and Mark Coulier (more English, hair/make-up), and Adam Stockhausen out of Wisconsin. Also, my friend Hugo Guinness (who co-wrote the movie with me) expresses his own gratitude. We feel very deeply honoured and thrilled and, frankly, very, very pleased with ourselves all around.”

Felicity Jones — Actress in a Leading Role — The Theory of Everything:

“I’m overwhelmed at this incredible news. This is a huge, huge honour. My deepest gratitude to the members of the Academy. I’ll look forward to celebrating this with everyone involved in The Theory of Everything. Thank you so much.”
