Is this the saddest moment of the Oscars? Michael Keaton quickly puts away Oscars speech after losing

IT’S not unexpected to be a little disappointed after missing out on an Oscar, but one small gesture from Michael Keaton reveals how heartbreaking it really is.

Saddest moment at the Oscars?

WELL, they say to always be prepared.

Even though eventual Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne was the odds-on favourite to take home the Best Actor statuette, Michael Keaton still held out hope for a surprise victory on Sunday night.

Sadly for the Birdman star, it was Redmayne’s name that Cate Blanchett called out near the end of the evening, leaving the 63-year-old actor with nothing to do but apparently stuff his acceptance speech back in his tuxedo jacket before anyone could notice.

But, as tends to happen these days, the cameras captured the quick move, as did a Vine user at home, who promptly posted the moment to the social media service, along with the caption, “Saddest moment of the night was Michael Keaton putting his speech back in his pocket after realising he lost.”

Fortunately that was one of the few disappointments of the night for the Batman star, who may have missed out on the individual award but joined the rest of the Birdman cast and crew on stage when the film won the Best Picture Oscar at the end of the night.
