Speaking to Fairfax, the 51-year-old actor said he had never been addicted to the drug and had only used it around three or four times in under 12 months.

“I felt like I sort of just ‘clicked’ and went into another area for a while. And I know that area now,” Colosimo said.

“Sometimes you’ve gotta test the water before you know if it’s too cold or too hot. But other times you take a little leap — I always have, I’m a curious person — without knowing the cost. Now I know what it costs.”

In January 2017, Colosimo was fined $1000 for possessing ice while driving in Melbourne after police found a small amount in a sunglasses case in his car in September 2016.

Later that year in November, the actor was handed a $3500 fine for driving under the influence of the same drug on a suspended licence in March that year.

While acknowledging he had been unhappy and “lost direction”, Colosimo expressed frustration at media reporting which he claimed had painted him as a drug addict.

“But what pissed me off more than anything was the story that people were getting was that I was weak and addicted and going through all this stuff … But I really wasn’t,” he said.

The actor said the intense scrutiny around his time in court had gone “way too far” and impacted him financially.

Between acting gigs, Colosimo has supplemented his income with painting and floorboard sanding work.

“My working life took a big hit. Of course it did,” Colosimo said.

The actor is now on the comeback trail, promoting his forthcoming movie The Second which will be released in cinemas on July 5 and on Stan on July 20.
