The Logies have been cancelled again due to the coronavirus pandemic. But not everyone is sad about the TV awards being pushed to next year.

No star safe from Tom Gleeson's Logies comedic tirade

The TV Week Logie Awards have been cancelled for the second year in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 62nd awards were due to take place at The Star Gold Coast on November 28 however Australia’s Delta outbreak - that will likely keep borders shut until late this year - has seen the awards pushed again.

Not everyone was sad about the awards being moved to 2022 - with 2019 Gold Logie winner Tom Gleeson celebrating the “good news” on Twitter.

Are Media, the team behind the Logies, said the evolving Covid situation “regrettably provides organisers with no certainty to plan ahead for a safe event for guests to attend”.

Due to the awards being cancelled last year and this year, the eligibility for the 2022 Logies will run from January 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

“We are disappointed to have to cancel this year’s TV WEEK Logie Awards after charging ahead with plans to return for a bigger than ever event on the Gold Coast this November,” Fiona Connolly, the group publisher of Are Media, said.

“Unfortunately, our current Covid cases and travel restrictions leave us no choice. But we will return to Queensland mid 2022 and promise the TV WEEK Logie Awards will bring an overdue and deserved night of glamour, celebration and recognition of Australia’s outstanding television industry.”

The new date for the 2022 awards will be announced early next year.
