Sam Pang has confirmed a wild rumour about a Logies afterparty he attended last year.

The rumour was started by comedian Mick Molloy, who claimed on Triple M’s Mick & MG in the Morning that Pang had partied the night away with Daryl Somers after hosting last year’s ceremony.

“Do you know what I heard? (Sam) was in Daryl Somers’ suite, hotel room, until six in the morning,” Molloy said on radio last year.

Pang dropped into news.com.au this week to chat about this Sunday’s Logies at The Star Sydney, which he is hosting for the second year in a row.

We asked him if there was any truth to what Molloy had alleged on air.

“Why would you ever believe anything that man says,” Pang joked. “That man is just a walking load of nonsense.”

He then confirmed he did in fact have a private party with Somers.

“Daryl, I don’t think he would mind me telling you, he invited me up to his hotel room after the show for a celebratory glass of champagne.

“It was a big thrill,” Pang said. “I grew up watching Daryl Somers, so for him to toast the night and say ‘well done’ was a big moment.”

Pang told news.com.au he had a few drinks with the former Hey Hey It’s Saturday host before heading to the official Logies afterparty.

When asked who partied the hardest inside, Pang singled out an ABC star.

“Costa (Georgiadis) from Gardening Australia, he was there at stumps,” Pang recalled.

“He has a wonderful energy. I don’t know if he was drinking, and if he wasn’t, he should have been, you know what I mean,” Pang joked.

What’s in store for this year’s Logies

Pang received rave reviews for his debut hosting performance last year, in particular for his hilarious opening monologue.

Some of his best jokes …

On his hosting gig: “Let’s be honest, it’s just great to have an Asian on Channel 7 who isn’t trying to smuggle live birds through Border Security.”

On MAFS: “Married At First Sight … continued to be a ratings juggernaut, in yet another clear sign that we may not make it as a species. Each week the show had a different theme. We had ‘Honesty Week’, ‘Intimacy Week’ … here’s a week I’d watch, ‘Literacy Week!’”

On Kochie: “There’s no doubt you changed breakfast television forever. Warmth, humour, personality … you needed none of those.”

On I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here: “A wonderful show where we find out which Australian celebrities haven’t been adding to their super. Hey Kerri-Anne (Kennerley), how are you?”

Pang told news.com.au that all of the celebs he poked fun at took the jokes on the chin.

“Everyone was fine,” he said. “There were no incidents backstage … Kerri-Anne didn’t have me up against a wall saying, ‘Say that again and I’m going to kill you!’”

As for what he has planned for this year’s monologue, Pang said we can expect an even spread of jokes about all of the TV networks.

“I’m happy to celebrate and commiserate with everything that’s happened in the year of television,” he said.

And you can bet there’ll be plenty of gags about Seven in particular, which has been plagued by scandals and redundancies in recent months.

“It’s been a big year for Seven,” Pang said. “I will say, working on The Front Bar, it’s much easier to get a park in the Channel 7 carpark at the moment.”

The TV WEEK Logie Awards will air on Channel 7 and 7plus on Sunday, August 18 from 7pm
