Logies 2018: Dave Hughes turns up heat on Stefanovic brothers in Logies roast
KARL Stefanovic has had a controversial year. And there was no way comedian Dave Hughes was going to let him off easily in his Logies opener.
LOGIES roaster Dave Hughes turned up the heat on the Stefanovic Uber scandal in a savage opening monologue.
“Be careful Stefanovics,” Hughes said about taking an Uber after the awards event.
“Whether it’s a cab or an Uber mate, leave a tip,” he told Karl from the stage. “Then they don’t have to make any extra money selling the story to New Idea.”

Hughes continued: “If you don’t know the story … Karl was on loudspeaker in an Uber … you shouldn’t have been bitching about your work colleagues.”
To recap, Peter Stefanovic rang Karl from an Uber, and the brothers shared a few unkind words about their Nine workmates.
“I’m sure Georgie’s very happy,” Hughes said of Karl’s co-host, Georgie Gardner. “Still on the fence Georgie, or did you take a pail and hit him over the head with it?”
Hughes added: “Imagine Karl and his brother in the bunk bed at home, as kids, talking smack about their mum. She’s outside the bedroom, saying: “I can hear you d**kheads …”
Hughes then spotted Karl’s former co-host Lisa Wilkinson, who moved to Channel 10’s The project earlier this year after a pay dispute.
“You left for pay parity, I know,” Hughes said. “You’re not getting it at The Project either. Now you’re getting double.”
But Hughes wasn’t finished flaming the networks. Channel 7, which sent minimal talent to the Logies, was next.
“Apart from Home and Away, their whole entourage came here in a maxi taxi. They said it was too expensive,” Hughes said. “Too expensive to come to the Gold Coast? I used to holiday here when I was on the dole. Kochie … borrow some money off the Cash Cow, mate.”
Hughes joked Seven probably spent all their money on the paid Barnaby Joyce and Vikki Campion interview.
Hughes noted Campion said Joyce was “surprisingly good” at changing nappies.
“Is he Vikki?” Hughes mused. “He’s got four other kids.”
Tennis ace Bernard Tomic’s brief turn on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here got a mention.
“ (Tomic) said he was going on that show to change Australia’s opinion of him, so they wouldn’t think he was a whinger and a quitter,” Hughes said.
“He was there for two days and all he did was whinge, then he quit.”
Hughes said MasterChef Australia didn’t get a Logie nod this year, but George Calombaris was still in the running because A Current Affair was nominated.
“I loved ‘George Is The Neighbour From Hell edition,’ where you built something in your backyard, and your neighbour thought: ‘What is that mystery box?’”
