Julia Morris' awkward Logies slip-up

JULIA Morris’ has explained why it all went so wrong during her Logies presenting gig last night - and it might be because she was flirting with Ricky Martin.

The I’m A Celeb Get Me Out Of Here host stole the show during the live broadcast after she accidentally forgot to announce the nominees, and instead cut straight to reading out the winner.

She fronted up on The Today Show this morning, telling Lisa and Karl how it all went so wrong and how she came to realise her epic mistake.

“I was sort of flirting with Ricky Martin - I mean (he is) swoontastic. I looked down and he was in my seat and I thought ‘Mummy will be back in a minute’ and then I realised I was wasting time, so I thought ‘oh my Gosh, I better get on with it... And the winner is...”

Morris said knew something was wrong when she saw how underwhelming the crowd’s response was.

“When I announced it was The Voice who had won, I was like ‘oh, tough crowd in this room, what’s wrong with people, someone’s won an award’ and there’s barely an applause.

“I thought it’s a tough crowd when people can’t even be happy for you that you’ve won something and then very slowly but surely, I thought ‘did I read those nominees? Oh my God, I haven’t read the nominees’ and then it all started to download.”

She said she realised the blunder while Darren McMullen was giving his acceptance speech on behalf of The Voice team.

“I thought I don’t even know what to do now, everybody who hadn’t won had still done plenty of work, a nomination’s amazing.

“There’s a great thing on Twitter that says ‘you’ve got one job’. I had one job! Read the nominees!”

While Karl Stefanovic told the 47-year-old she was “epically funny,” Lisa Wilkinson said Morris will be top of the list in Logies goof reels for years to come.

“Chucking a JMo they're going to call it,” Morris said, “Yeh, don’t chuck a JMo, actually read the nominees because these people have worked hard to get their mention if you wouldn't mind.”

Carrie Bickmore also joined Morris on the couch to talk about how she almost decided not to give her inspiring Logies speech which saw her don a beanie to raise awareness about brain cancer.
