Former Miss Universe Maria Thattil stuns in ‘naked’ dress at the Logies

Former Miss Universe Australia Maria Thattil is channelling Kim Kardashian at the Logies in a jaw-dropping dress designed with a significant message in mind.

Former I’m A Celeb contestant Maria Thattil has emulated Kim Kardashian’s famous Thierry Mugler Met Gala look in a ‘naked’ dress of her own at the Logies tonight.

The stunning 2020 Miss Universe Australia winner was all Hollywood glamour in the bejewelled number, flaunting her figure on the red carpet in a daring corset silhouette with trailing beads, drop sleeves and a dramatic white train.

Just like Kardashian at the 2019 Met Gala, she completed the outfit with a wet-look hairstyle.

The gown was designed by Melbourne dressmaker Con Ilio, with Maria explaining on Instagram that it represents an important message.

“INTRODUCING THE NAKED DRESS by @conilio.official,” she wrote.

“It took vulnerability to stand in my naked truth when I came out on national TV during my first show – so I wanted a look that represent that.

This custom gown is an ode to the power that lies in not hiding who you are. The nakedness of the dress stands for freedom, and unrestricted by attempts to shield the body, it represents power in celebrating yourself. Logies – here we come.”

Maria opened up about her sexuality while appearing on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! this year, revealing she has dated both men and women in the past.

The model told Sydney Confidential she had hidden her sexuality because it had been “shamed” out of her when she was in school.

“It is something I have felt for a very long time,” Thattil told Confidential.

“I grew up having crushes on girls in school and just completely invalidated it because of religion and also because there were many homophobic sentiments in my school around being a lesbian, around anything other than heteronormativity.

“You don’t have a lot of bisexual visibility in popular culture and so you don’t understand what it is.”

She explained that after her last relationship ended, she started “exploring and dating women”.
