Julia Roberts, Cate Blanchett ‘too emotional’ for Bette Midler’s Oscars tribute
JULIA Roberts is said to have broken down in tears while she bonded with Cate Blanchett during Bette Midler’s touching Oscars performance.
BETTE Midler’s soaring performance of Wind Beneath My Wings after the In Memorandum segment of the Oscars reportedly proved too emotional for Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett.
Roberts, who was having a drink with Blanchett and others in the lounge outside the auditorium when Midler came on, was spotted crying during the song, an observer told US Weekly.
“This song always makes me cry, but I’m just overwhelmed with emotions this month,” the star, who recently lost her half-sister to a drug overdose, told the group, according to the eyewitness.
Afterwards, Best Actress winner Blanchett took a moment to mourn the loss of close friend Philip Seymour Hoffman, who was remembered during the tribute.
“It’s f***ing terrible. How many more people have to die?! It’s awful,” the Blue Jasmine star said as the two women clinked glasses in agreement, the observer said.
