John Travolta offers an explanation — of sorts — for his ‘Adele Darzeem’ Oscars gaffe

JOHN Travolta provided the only true WTF moment of Monday’s Oscars ceremony. Now, he’s offered an explanation — of sorts.

Travolta mangles intro

JOHN Travolta has finally offered up an explanation — of sorts — for his now-infamous onstage gaffe at Monday’s Academy Awards.

Travolta made an appearance at this week’s 86th Academy Awards to introduce a performance by Idina Menzel, singing the showstopper Let It Go from the award-winning animated film Frozen.

When it came time to pronounce Menzel’s name, what Travolta came out with sounded more like ‘Adele Darzeen’ — a gaffe that internet jokesters are still dining out on.

Now, 48 hours later, Travolta has finally broken his silence about the blunder — but if you’re looking for an explanation as to how he possibly bungled Menzel’s name so badly, you may be disappointed.

“I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought … What would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’ Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!”

Cute response, John, if a little light on information. Look, it seems we may never get a satisfying explanation for our favourite Oscars moment of 2014, so let’s all just enjoy it.
