Hollywood stars attend Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles

NEWLYWEDS Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello turned heads on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA.

Winners highlight importance of diversity at SAG Awards

ORANGE Is The New Black actor Laura Prepon has spoken out about racial diversity while accepting an award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

“Look at this stage, this is what we talk about when we talk about diversity,” Prepon said, while accepting the Netflix-produced show’s award for ‘performance by an ensemble in a comedy series’.

“Different race, colour, creed, sexual orientation,” Prepon said.

Idris Elba won two awards — best male actor in a supporting role for the film Beasts of No Nation and male actor in a TV movie or miniseries for Luther.

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to diverse TV,” Elba said.

Earlier, Orange Is The New Black actor Uzo Aduba — aka Crazy Eyes — won best female actor in a comedy series.

“I would like to take an opportunity to acknowledge the actors that are at home and not in this room with us ... no matter if anyone tells you to get out of that line that you’re waiting in, stay in that line,” Aduba said, according to the Los Angeles Times’s blog.

The other winners included Jeffrey Tambor, who was awarded best performance by a male actor in a comedy series for Transparent, and Viola Davis, who was named top female actor in a drama series for How To Get Away With Murder.queen

Kevin Spacey won male actor in a drama TV series for House of Cards.

Oscar hopeful Brie Larson was named best female actor in a leading role (film) for Room, beating Cate Blanchett (who was nominated for Carol). Leonardo DiCaprio took out the best male actor in a leading role in a motion picture for his performance in The Revenant, and Alicia Vikander was presented with the outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role in a motion picture for The Danish Girl.

The star-studded ensemble of Spotlight won the award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, while Queen Latifah took home the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a television movie or miniseries for her work in Bessie.

Mad Max: Fury Road won the award for oustanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a motion picture, while Game of Thrones took home the award for oustanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a comedy of drama series.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are set to present comedy legend Carol Burnett with the Lifetime Achievement Award later in the show.

Meantime, Modern Family actor Sofia Vergara and her new husband, Joe Manganiello, turned heads when they arrived fashionably (very fashionably) late.

A Hollywood beset by a crisis over diversity convened for the 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The awards come amid uproar over a second year of all-white Academy Awards acting nominees, which has spawned cries for an Oscar boycott and precipitated membership changes for the film academy.
