Hits and misses on the red carpet at the 2015 AACTA Awards
IT WAS a sweaty summer afternoon, but that didn’t stop a bunch of stars from shining in the style stakes at the AACTA Awards. One actress boldy opted to go commando.
IT WAS a sweaty summer afternoon, but that didn’t stop Aussie stars from sparkling on the red carpet at the AACTA Awards in Sydney.
Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving and Mel Gibson were among the big names who appeared at the awards recognising the year’s best local films and TV.
Hosted by Rachel Griffiths and Teresa Palmer, Blanchett was honoured with the Longford Lyell Award for her outstanding contribution to the Australian screen.
One of the last to arrive, the Blue Jasmine star showed the others how it was done in a sleek black Armani gown with a high neckline. With simple makeup, her hair pulled back and long gold drop earings, the 46-year-old stunned.
Fresh from her US Dancing With The Stars win, Bindi Irwin hit the rug in a black Alex Perry cocktail dress. The 17-year-old was snapped chatting to Rove McManus while her boyfriend Chandler Powell stood back and let his girlfriend shine.
Awards co-host Theresa Palmer and 2Day FM’s Emma Freedman both brought the drama and went bold in black.
Going for a very different style to the smoking look that scored her headlines earlier this year at the ASTRA Awards, Kerri-Anne Kennerley looked bright and shiny in a sleek white dress. With her platinum hair in an up do, she made things pop with bright pink nails and lipstick.
2Day FM breakfast host and former Bachelorette Sam Frost turned heads in a peculiar number. The 26-year-old’s Nicola Finetti frock was part patterned skirt and part sheer top, with an exposed bra completing the look.
Rocking a figure-hugging white beaded gown and tousled shoulder length locks, Megan Gale struck a cheeky pose for photographers.
Love Child’s Miranda Tapsell looked fresh in blue while Sophie Lowe went for a more theatrical look in Ellery. 800 Words actress Melina Vidler, on the other hand, went for a Princess Diaries moment.
There were a couple of questionable fashion choices. Wonderland’s Emma Lung was a tad underdressed in her leather mini dress and boots, while Kirby Burgess turned heads in a revealing pink lace-up frock that put her at risk of a serious wardrobe malfunction.
The former Dirty Dancing the Musical star even appeared to be going commando on the red carpet.
And of course the cast of Home & Away made an appearance. They managed to bus it in from Palm Beach just in time for a group snap.
