Christina Applegate attended the 2023 SAG Awards — which she has said will likely be her “last awards show as an actor” — in Los Angeles on Monday.

The star, 51, who confirmed her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, walked the red carpet in a stunning, suit-inspired black gown paired with an embellished cane adorned with a telling message — “FU MS”.

Applegate brought her 12-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace — whom she shares with husband Martyn LeNoble — who wore a black blazer with matching slim-fitting pants and a newsboy cap.

“It’s my last awards show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal,” Applegate told The Los Angeles Times in an interview published February 7.

“Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5am and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set,” she added. “I don’t have that in me at this moment.”

Applegate was nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor for her portrayal of Jen Harding in the Netflix comedy Dead to Me, marking her sixth-ever SAG nod.

The award was taken home by Jean Smart in Hacks.

The Hollywood vet told the LA Times that while she wants to take a break from acting, she plans to keep working.

“Doing a s — t ton of voice-overs to make some cash to make sure that my daughter’s fed and we’re homed,” she said when asked about a potential career pivot.

Applegate’s MS diagnosis previously forced her to press pause on filming the third and final season of Dead to Me, undergoing treatment during her hiatus.

The series eventually resumed production and Season 3 became available to stream November 17, 2022.

Applegate — who stars opposite Linda Cardellini — told the LA Times that it was initially difficult watching her performance back, especially knowing the physical pain she was experiencing as cameras rolled.

“I don’t like seeing myself struggling,” she said. “Also, I gained 40 pounds because of inactivity and medications, and I didn’t look like myself, and I didn’t feel like myself.”

Applegate elaborated, “At some point I was able to distance myself from my own ego, and realise what a beautiful piece of television it was. All the scenes I wasn’t in were so much fun to see and experience for the very first time”.
