This year’s major Grammy winners

Song, Record and Album of the Year all went to different artists at the Grammys - but one much-loved artist was snubbed in all three awards.

The big history-making moments from the Grammys 2023

Music superstar Beyonce made history at today’s Grammy Awards, while Harry Styles took out the night’s top award, for Album of the Year.

But more than one hour into the ceremony, and Bey was still nowhere to be seen, with others having to accept multiple awards on her behalf.

Midway through the ceremony came a truly historic win from Bey (who was finally in the building): Her win for Best Dance / Electronic Album was the 32nd Grammy she’d won, instantly making her the most-awarded artist in Grammys history. The previous record of 31 wins had been held by 26 years by late Hungarian-British conductor Georg Solti.

Beyonce just broke a Grammys record.

The visibly emotional star thanked her late Uncle Johnny, to whom the album is dedicated, and the queer community, “for your love... and for inventing this genre.”

Music legend Bonnie Raitt provided one of the night’s biggest shocks when she won Song Of The Year for her track Just Like That, beating out massive smash hits by the likes of Harry Styles, Lizzo, Taylor Swift and Beyonce.

Raitt looked absolutely stunned as her name was announced:

Bonnie Raitt clearly didn't expect to win Song of the Year.

Minutes later, Lizzo looked just as shocked as she took out the award for Record of the Year for her hit single About Damn Time.
“Um... huh? Let me tell you something, me and Adele are having a good time just enjoying ourselves, just rooting for our friends, so this is an amazing night,” she said.

She also gave a special shout-out to Beyonce: “In the fifth grade I skipped school to see you perform. It was literature; I’m good. You changed my life, so thank you so much.”

There was another surprise when the night’s final award, for Album of the Year, went to Harry Styles for Harry’s House. Beyonce had been widely tipped to win the award for Renassiance.

Earlier, Harry Styles won the first televised award of the night, taking home the Best Pop Vocal Album gong for Harry’s House.

And Beyonce won the second televised award, taking out Best R&B Song for Cuff It - but, bizarrely, she wasn’t there to accept the award. Host Trevor Noah explained the star was “on her way” but appeared to be stuck in traffic.

Finally - 80 minutes into the ceremony - we were given visual confirmation. Beyonce was in the building!

Sam Smith and Kim Petras took out the Best Pop Duo / Group Performance Grammy for their smash hit Unholy, with Smith giving over the mic to Petras to deliver the whole speech.

“Sam graciously wanted me to accept this award, because I’m the first transgender woman to win this award,” she said, earning a standing ovation from the audience.

We spoke to Kim days before her Grammys win for the latest episode of news.com.au’s I’ve Got News For You podcast - give it a listen (and hear her hilarious story about a very drunk Madonna encounter) here.

Later in the show, Sam and Kim united to perform Unholy - introduced by non other than the Queen of Pop herself. Madonna was dressed surprisingly demurely for the occasion:

But arguably the best performance of the night was a breakneck medley of some of the biggest rap and hip-hop songs of the past several decades, to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop.

Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah, Busta Rhymes, Nelly, De La Soul and LL Cool J were among the hip-hop legends to perform mere seconds of their biggest hits in a breakneck medley that had the whole crowd on their feet.

Earlier, stars walked the red carpet ahead of the televised ceremony - and celebs including Shania Twain and Aussie pop band Cub Sport provided some of the most talked-about moments.

Then Bad Bunny, nominated for Album of the Year, opened the show with a high-energy performance that had stars including Taylor Swift up out of their seats and dancing.
