Comedian Ricky Gervais has made a risky joke about Will Smith’s wife — a move that some say could earn him a “slap”.

Gervais is active on social media and didn’t miss a photo of Will Smith’s son Jaden, 26, wearing a $7300 castle on his head at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Jaden also sported a smart black Louis Vuitton suit — but the bizarre castle on his head was the centre of attention.

Gervais unleashed his acerbic wit on the Smith family, making a reference to the infamous Will Smith–Chris Rock slapping incident.

Gervais hinted that perhaps Jaden’s hair had been shaved underneath the castle, tweeting: “Maybe he’s bald like his mum.”

His followers quickly warned that his joke might result in a slap from Smith.

“KERSMACK!!!” Watch yourself, been some Will Smith sightings on your side of the pond,” one wrote.

“You’re going to get a slap from big Will,” another added.

Smith has not commented on the joke and was contrite in the days and weeks after the incident with Rock.

The slap that stopped the world took place at the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022.

Host Chris Rock was slapped on stage by Smith after making a quip about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith and her shaved hair.

The crowd at first wasn’t sure if it was a planned skit, but it quickly became clear that Smith was enraged and had attacked Rock for his joke. Smith later apologised to the Academy, and then Smith, before resigning his Academy membership.

Smith has been effectively in exile since then, and may have lost up to $1 billion in earnings after being shunned by major production companies.

Gervais, a stand-up comedian and TV actor, is known for his controversial jokes.

He made waves with a monologue at the 77th Golden Globe Awards in 2019, mocking stars to their faces and included references to Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and Leonardo DiCaprio’s younger girlfriends.
