GEORGE Clooney has weighed in on Donald Trump’s remarks that Meryl Streep is “one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood” with a very cheeky response.
Attending a charity event overnight, the actor was asked about Trump’s comments which came after Streep took aim at the president-elect while accepting an award at the Golden Globes earlier this week.
“I’ve always said that about Meryl,” Clooney joked to People, mock-agreeing with Trump’s comments about the film icon. “She’s maybe the most overrated actress of all-time. She and I worked together on Fantastic Mr. Fox as husband and wife and I will tell you even as a fox, a female fox, she’s overrated.”
Asked about what he thought of Trump himself, Clooney’s response was simple: “Aren’t you supposed to be running the country?”
Streep received thunderous applause when she took aim at Mr Trump while accepting the Cecil B DeMille Award, handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, during Sunday night’s ceremony.
The three-time Oscar winner repeatedly criticised Mr Trump and his remarks targeting various groups, including foreigners and journalists..
In her speech, Streep made mention of the disabled reporter Mr Trump mocked at a rally last year, saying, “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head.”
