Golden Globes 2021: Hosts, nominations and where to watch

The first Hollywood awards show of 2021 rolls out the red carpet on Monday. Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s Golden Globes.

Netflix leads the pack in the 2021 Golden Globes nominations

Hollywood awards season is upon us for 2021, with the Golden Globes coming up on Monday.

The 78th annual ceremony, which celebrates the best in television and film and is often a reliable barometer for the Academy Awards, will be the first ever virtual show.

Last year the awards season managed to go ahead as normal with the coronavirus pandemic hitting in March.

Although things will be different this year, you can still expect funny monologues from the co-hosts, A-list winners and red carpet fashion to take centre stage.

WHEN ARE THE GOLDEN GLOBES?

The 78th annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony airs express from the US in Australia on Monday, March 1 at 12pm AEDT.

WHERE CAN I WATCH THE GOLDEN GLOBES?

Live red carpet coverage will begin on Foxtel’s E! channel from 10am. The ceremony will follow on Foxtel’s Fox Arena channel at 12pm, with an encore at 7.30pm.

WHO IS PRESENTING AT THE GOLDEN GLOBES?

Returning to hosting duties for the fourth time are comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

The duo will have to split their roles from opposite sides of the country, with Fey based in New York’s Rainbow Room at the Rockefeller Centre while Poehler will broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, which is where the event usually takes place.

Nominees and presenters will also appear during the broadcast from various locations around the world.

WHO IS NOMINATED?

Netflix has led the way with feature film Mank receiving six nominations.

Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried were nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress for their roles in Mank, which is also up for Best Screenplay for the late Jack Fincher, best director, best score and best film (drama).

The Trial Of The Chicago 7 trails just behind with five nods. Both films are up against The Father, Nomadland and Promising Young Woman for Best Motion Picture, Drama.

Netflix also cleaned up in television categories with The Crown, The Queen’s Gambit and Ratched scoring nominations.

Schitt’s Creek has also dominated multiple TV categories.

WHO WILL WIN THE CECIL B. DEMILLE AWARD?

Jane Fonda, 83, is set to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Globes, the highest honour given to an “individual who has made an incredible impact” in film, during the 78th annual ceremony. Norman Lear, 98, will take home the Carol Burnett Award for his iconic contributions to television history.
