The Power of the Dog and Belfast have garnered the most Golden Globe nominations, each scoring seven nods, while Succession led the way on the small screen by scoring five nominations.

Australians Nicole Kidman, Kodi Smit-McPhee both scored acting nominations for their films Being the Ricardos and The Power of the Dog respectively, while Sarah Snook was acknowledged for Succession.

There were a number of snubs and surprises however.

There was no love at all for Cate Blanchett and Bradley Cooper’s film Nightmare Alley by Guillermo del Toro, which didn’t get single nomination.

Selena Gomez missed out for Only Murders in the Building despite the other two leads, Steve Martin and Martin Short both being nominated.

Rita Morena missed out for Best Supporting Actress her role in the new West Side Story, a remake of the movie which scored her an Oscar. No love for the film’s lead actor Ansel Elgort.

Meryl Streep has been nominated for almost 30 Golden Globe awards but the Hollywood Foreign Press Association left her off the list this time for her turn playing the US President in Don’t Look Up.

While Lady Gaga was nominated for her starring role in The House Of Gucci, that was the only nod the film. Her co-stars Adam Driver, Al Pacino and Jared Leto all missed out.

Jennifer Hudson also missed out on an acting nod for playing Aretha Franklin in Respect, but was recognised in the Original Song category.

Among the surprises were Oh Yeong-su is nominated for playing Squid Game’s ageing underdog Oh Il-nam, aka Player 001.

Maggie Gyllenhaal managed to do what only eight women directors have accomplished, scoring a best directing nomination for The Lost Daughter, it was particularly impressive given it is the first film she has helmed.
