Friends’ Courteney Cox ‘grateful’ for 2021 Emmys nod after years of snubs ‘hurt my feelings’

Courteney Cox has finally been nominated for an Emmy, after revealing she felt “hurt” as the only Friends star to not be nominated during its run.

Friends: The cast highs and lows since the end of the show

Courteney Cox has finally received an Emmy nomination for Friends after expressing it “hurt my feelings” not to be recognised during the show’s decade-long run.

Friends: The Reunion, which streams locally on Binge*, was honoured today in the outstanding prerecorded variety special category in the list of 2021 Emmys nominations.

Cox, 57, was the only member of the Friends cast that had not been nominated for an Emmy, with Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc all receiving nods over the years.

Voters finally remedied that – to an extent – by nominating the reunion show, on which Cox served as an executive producer, for four awards including best prerecorded variety special.

The US actress took to Instagram to declare how “grateful” she was to receive the honour.

“The one where we are incredibly grateful to the Academy for this honor (sic) and especially thankful for @mrbenwinston and his entire team for their outstanding achievement,” Cox wrote with a photo of the cast at the reunion.

It comes after Cox told US radio personality Howard Stern in June that she struggled with being the only cast member that wasn’t recognised at TV’s night of nights.

“It always hurt my feelings when every single cast member was nominated but me. It definitely hurt my feelings,” Cox said.

“I was happy for everybody, and then when it was finally like, ‘Oh, I’m the only one?’”

Thankfully, Cox did manage to score a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a TV Comedy in 2010 for Cougar Town, which ran from 2009 to 2015.

“The only thing that made me feel good – because they’ve all won and they’ve gotten so many accolades – I got nominated for Cougar Town the first year – a Golden Globe,” Cox said during the interview.

“And I want to say, ‘Oh, who cares?’ [But] it meant everything to me.”
