Emmy nominations 2016: Game of Thrones, The People vs. OJ Simpson lead Emmy nods

AUSSIE Ben Mendelsohn has scored an Emmy nomination as the fantasy series Game of Thrones led the pack with 23 Emmy nods.

'Game of Thrones' Grabs 23 Emmy 2016 Nominations

AUSTRALIAN Ben Mendelsohn has scored an Emmy nomination for his role in Bloodline as fantasy drama Game of Thrones led the field for a third straight year, with nominations in 23 categories.

The fantasy epic about noble families vying for control of the Iron Throne will compete for the prestigious outstanding drama series trophy for the fifth year in a row, the Television Academy announced.

It nudged out The People vs. OJ Simpson, which received 22 nominations, with Fargo third with 18 nominations.

A number of Emmy favourites missed out however. The Good Wife and star Juliana Margulies were unable to garner any love in the show’s final season, same said for Downton Abbey, although Maggie Smith did manage to score a nomination.

Also, despite winning an Emmy last year for Orange is the New Black, Uzo Aduba didn’t even receive a nomination this year.
