Emmy Awards 2021 red carpet: Best and worst dressed
She’s had a tumultuous few weeks following news of her shock split, but Kaley Cuoco looked as though she didn’t have a care in the world as she hit the red carpet.
Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have hit the red carpet outside the Microsoft Theatre in LA for the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Crown, Ted Lasso, Mare of Easttown, Hacks and The Queen’s Gambit have proven the big winners this year - but before any statues were handed out, all eyes were on the red carpet.
(Catch up on all the action that unfolded during the ceremony right here - or check out the complete list of all the winners and losers).
Kaley Cuoco’s personal life has been making plenty of headlines lately amid her divorce from Karl Cook and potential new romance with co-star Pete Davidson, but the first-time Emmy nominee looked as though she didn’t have a care in the world as she hit the red carpet in a stunning yellow gown.
She was nominated for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her starring role in The Flight Attendant, but lost to Hacks’ Jean Smart.
Pose star Billy Porter can always be counted on to deliver a red carpet spectacle, and today was no exception.
The actor’s ensemble was heavily bird-influenced - a theme supported by his poses:
There was a real Moira Rose Crows’ premiere vibe about the whole thing.
Speaking of, our actual Moira Rose - Catherine O’Hara - was as chic as her Schitt’s Creek persona, albeit slightly more understated.
Newcomer Emma Corrin, nominated for Lead Actress for her stunning portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown, arrived at the London event as something mildly terrifying.
It started normally: we’ve got a pale yellow strapless gown, that’s nice.
But add the matching Handmaid’s Tale-esque bonnet, huge dark claws, and fingerless gloves, and just... what?!
On the one hand, good on her for not playing it safe for her first Emmys.
On the other, fire your stylist.
Meanwhile, Corrin’s The Crown co-star and Lead Actor nominee Josh O’Connor was in LA, and looked as unsure about his flower (?) necktie (?) as we were.
Everyone’s favourite coach, Ted Lasso - aka Jason Sudeikis - ditched the hoodie this time around (see: Golden Globes) in favour of a velvet blue suit.
The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy, who lost the Lead Actress in A Limited Series statue to Mare of Easttown’s Kate Winslet, came as a scrambled egg.
WandaVision’s Elizabeth Olsen showed up in a dress designed by her famous older sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley, for their label The Row.
Nominee Taraji P. Henson oozed glamour in her incredibly low-cut sheer black-and-silver gown.
Hannah Einbinder - who burst onto the scene and scored herself an Emmy nomination for her role in Hacks - was pretty and classic in pink.
Her co-star, Jean Smart, who won Lead Actress in a Comedy for Hacks but lost Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series to Mare of Easttown co-star Julianne Nicholson, was ageless in a classic black gown.
Another Hacks star, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, made a bolder fashion choice, with an off-the-shoulder white shirt and pirate pants.
Amy Poehler was clearly offered some random guy’s jacket on the way in because she looked cold in her glitzy dress.
Saturday Night Live star Aidy Bryant looked like she was involved in some kind of sketch.
Ellen Pompeo, of Grey’s Anatomy fame, went for a high-fashion vibe in a black velvet jumpsuit with crystal detailing.
Schitt’s Creek creator and star Dan Levy channelled David Rose with this robed three-piece blue number.
His on-screen sister, Annie Murphy, wore a dress that was at least two sizes too big.
Also in green: Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi, who looked absolutely flawless.
This Is Us star Mandy Moore always gets it right on the red carpet - and this was no exception.
Hamilton actress Renee Goldsberry was pure glam in this cream feathered gown.
Sarah Paulson’s otherwise normal red dress featured inflatable sleeves, in case the afterparty has a pool.
America Ferrara kept it simple and elegant in a slinky purple slip dress with turquoise accessories.
Beanie Feldstein glowed in a shimmery shirt-dress.
Cynthia Erivo, nominated for her role as Aretha Franklin in Genius: Aretha, kept it simple - from the knees up.
I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel, who won the Emmy for Writing for a Limited Series, was eye-catching in a neon yellow two-piece set.
There's always one person committed to the #FreeTheNipple cause on a red carpet, and today it was pianist and TV writer Our Lady J:
Beth Behrs turned up as a sexy Glinda the Good Witch.
Seth Rogen looked particularly sharp with his newly-cropped hair and chic suit.
The Handmaid’s Tale star Samira Wiley nailed the power suit in a satin black set with gold spots.
I believe Angelina Jolie trademarked the Awards Show Singular Leg, but here’s SNL star Cecily Strong giving it a red-hot go.
Ange must have collected some decent royalties from tonight, because here’s Catherine Zeta-Jones also giving The Leg:
Queer Eye star and red carpet host Karamo Brown was sharp as always in a navy velvet tuxedo.
Nailed It podcast host and first-time Emmy nominee Nicole Byer floated onto the red carpet on a sea of frothy purple.
Rita Wilson was glimmering in sequins and satin.
