Chelsea Handler slammed for Lupita Nyong’o Oscar tweet
TWITTER users are outraged after Chelsea Handler used Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscar win to help advertise her own book about Africa.
LOOKS like Chelsea Handler just lost a lot of potential readers.
Following the win of Best Supporting Actress by Lupita Nyong’o at the Oscars, the US comedian (using the Huffington Post account) tweeted, “Congratulations #lupita To pre order #ugandabekiddingme go to http://amzn.to/1pS4qpG #Oscars.”
As The New York Postnoted, the plug was a reference to Handler’s African travelogue, Uganda Be Kidding Me, out later this month. But outraged Twitter users weren’t sure what the connection was to Nyong’o. (The actor is Kenyan and now lives in Brooklyn.)

“YALL NEED TO APOLOGISE,” read one angry response on Twitter. “Am speechless,” read another.
“Massive fail,” said another.
“Are you trying to connect this book to @Lupita_Nyongo because she’s black and from Africa? Wow,” wrote Twitter user Andrea Houston.
Handler continued to offend later in the show. When 12 Years a Slave won Best Picture, she tweeted, “Congratulations #12yearsaslave Go to Africa or buy #ugandabekiddingme http://amzn.to/1de1ka9 #aheadofthecurve #Oscars.”
Shortly after, Handler apologised for her shameless plugs, tweeting, “Thank you @HuffingtonPost #imsorry.”
