One Direction arrive at the Arias 2014 and the fans go berserk
THERE were tears and ear-piercing screams as fans of the biggest boy band in the world went into meltdown at the ARIA Awards.
WE KNEW the biggest boy band in the world would get one helluva reception when they hit the 2014 ARIA red carpet but nothing can prepare you for the ear-piercing screams of hundreds of 15-year-olds.
One Direction and Katy Perry were the last to arrive on the red carpet, proving that despite our thriving homegrown music industry, Aussies still can’t resist the allure of an international pop star.
The genetically blessed boys were gracious with their time, stopping to take pictures with fans who were utterly shell-shocked at meeting their idols. Teen girls shook, cried and held each other as they came to grips with their brief 1D encounter.
One manic fan was overheard on the phone to her mother saying, ‘Mum, I couldn’t breath, I seriously couldn’t breath!’”
News.com.au spoke to a few of the girls with the sort of good natured incredulity that comes with adulthood (before remembering we would’ve done exactly the same thing for the Spice Girls in 1997).
The crowd also went insane for local boy band 5SOS - and, weirdly enough, The Wiggles - but sadly 5SOS whizzed down the red carpet leaving fans wanting more.
But not the One Direction boys, their fans were rewarded with lots of face time.
The gang made sure they looked good for their close-ups too, with Niall and Liam both getting a touch up of foundation after they excited the limo. Surely that’s what the car ride over is for, boys?
But when you have dozens of selfies to take with screaming girls, it pays to look your best.
And with so much skin-to-skin contact on offer we imagine these girls won’t be washing for weeks!
