John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, Flume and Jess Mauboy to perform at the ARIA Awards
IT will be something old and something new when a mix of superstars from Farnsie to Flume perform at the 30th anniversary of the ARIAs.
IT would have been un-Australian not to have John Farnham perform You’re The Voice at the 30th anniversary of the ARIA Awards.
Farnham dominated the inaugural awards back in 1987 with his comeback anthem and his presence on the list of performers for this year’s awards would suggest he will reprise that big moment at The Star next Wednesday.
Global electronic pop sensation Flume is confirmed to be on the stage for more than acceptance speeches and with eight nominations, you can bet on him making at least a few walks to the podium.
It is likely he will be joined by two of the women who have helped propel his songs onto the airwaves worldwide, with Canadian vocalist Kai and Swedish artist Tove Lo also attending the awards.
While Illy and Vera Blue are listed separately on the roll call of performers, it doesn’t take much crystal ball gazing to predict they’ll be singing their smash hit Papercuts, which is up for four awards.
Robbie Williams, who has been rumoured as a potential host for the night alongside nominee Delta Goodrem, is expected to entertain us with some singing and dancing at the event.
There are several other artists who will be paired up for unique “moments” paying tribute not only to current hits contesting the 2016 awards but iconic songs from the past three decades.
Hall of Fame inductees Crowded House are likely to be joined by other singers just as Tina Arena was last year for the scene-stealing performance of Chains with Jessica Mauboy and The Veronicas.
Perhaps Missy Higgins or Bernard Fanning, announced as “performing live” will join Neil Finn, Nick Seymour and the band during their special spot.
We doubt Higgins will repeat her historic ARIAs moment when she jumped on presenter David Hasselhoff during the 2005 awards.
And Mauboy, who performed a certain Cold Chisel song to open the Secret Daughter series, could be walking out with Flame Trees original singer Jimmy Barnes, who is also on the performers’ roll.
Rising pop star Troye Sivan, whose debut record Blue Neighbourhood, will prove a big hit on the night with younger fans as will rockers Violent Soho who are up for plenty of gongs.
The Veronicas have also signed on to perform this year while other singers for the big night are still being locked in by organisers.
Many of the artists who will sing on the ARIAs stage have won the Song of the Year or are nominated for this year’s award.
You can vote for your favourite ARIAs song from the past 30 years in our exclusive poll, with the winner announced next Wednesday on the red carpet.
