Have the ARIA winners already been released? These stars should prepare acceptance speeches
IGGY Azalea is tipped to win key awards at tonight’s ARIAs, based on figures that accurately predicted the Grammys. Who should be preparing acceptance speeches?
SHE famously said “this award is the first award I’ve ever won in my entire life” at the American Music Awards this week but Iggy Azalea is tipped to add more to her name at the ARIAs tonight.
Predictions by music-streaming site Spotify suggest the Fancy rapper will claim three out of the five key awards.
Azalea is the favourite to win Song of the Year for Fancy — her mega hit with Charli XCX — along with Breakthrough Release for her album The New Classic, and Best Female Artist, according to Spotify’s predictions.
The predictions were based on analysis of local streaming data on Spotify, which has previously been used to accurately forecast the Grammys.
Gold singer Chet Faker is the frontrunner to win the ARIA Award for Album of the Year, for his debut record Built on Glass, and is also strongly tipped to win Best Male Artist, according to the analysis.
The same analysis of Spotify user streams correctly forecast some of this year’s Grammy Award winners.
It tipped Lorde would win Best Pop Solo Performance for Royals and Daft Punk’ would win Best Pop Duo/Performance for Get Lucky.
It also forecast that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis would be named Best New Artist — which they did.
While Azalea’s name isn’t on the list of celebs who’ll be at the ARIAs tonight, her Fancy collaborator British singer Charli XCX will attend.
One Direction will perform, along with 5 Seconds of Summer, Chet Faker, Dan Sultan and Hilltop Hoods at the awards, which are being presented at The Star in Sydney.
Meantime, 1D today reached one million streams on Spotify — the equivalent of 5000 continuous years of music.
The boy band is now ranked No. 14 on a list of the most-streamed artists on Spotify, which also includes Eminem, David Guetta, Rihanna, Coldplay and Avicii.
