Singer Charli XCX suffered an extreme wardrobe malfunction as she tried to present an award at last week’s ARIAs.

The British star presented the Best Pop Release award to The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber in a prerecorded video for this year’s pared back awards, which were held at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo last Wednesday.

But in a video posted to her social media channels in the wake of the awards, Charli revealed things went very wrong during one take.

Mid-malfunction.
Mid-malfunction.
Whoops!
Whoops!

“And the ARIA goes to The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber for Stay. Well done, congratulations,” she said – and at that moment, the strap on one side of her dress fell down, exposing one half of her chest as she collapsed in a fit of laughter.

Charli, 29, clearly thought the blooper was too good not to share, posting it with the caption “Congrats x” a few days after the awards.

She laughed it off.
She laughed it off.

It was all reminiscent of one of the most infamous wardrobe malfunctions of all time – actress Tara Reid’s disastrous red carpet appearance at P. Diddy’s 2004 birthday party. Reid stood in front of a wall of photographers on the red carpet – and didn’t notice when the strap on her black dress slipped down, exposing her breast entirely as the paparazzi snapped away. It was several agonising seconds before her publicist raced in to pull her dress up.

So was it a genuine blooper from Charli, or a tasteful homage to an iconic celebrity moment? Who can say.

Elsewhere at last week’s ARIA Awards, Ghanaian-Australian hip-hop artist Genesis Owusu was the night’s biggest winner, taking home four awards including Best Album.

And pre-awards, the newest – and youngest – member of The Wiggles, new Yellow Wiggle Tsehay Hawkins, made her red carpet debut.
