Adelaide designer says he will have to apologise to Giuliana Rancic after Oscar gown zip breaks
THE designer behind Giuliana Rancic’s Oscars dress said he “couldn’t believe” the zip broke during the E! News host’s live red carpet commentary.
THE designer behind Giuliana Rancic’s Oscars dress said he “couldn’t believe” the zip broke during the E! News host’s live red carpet commentary.
Rancic was forced to hold the side of her embellished dress shut after it tore open on live TV, prompting co-host Ryan Seacrest to help sew it up again.
“I cannot believe that happened,” Paolo Sebastian designer Paul Vasileff told Confidential.
“I hadn’t seen the dress for a month or so and its invisible zip so it’s a bit tricky, and they do tend to break.”
The Adelaide designer was nevertheless over-the-moon to see his wares at the prestigious awards event.
“We just had ice cream for lunch to celebrate,” he said.
“It’s an unfortunate thing to happen right then. She took it well but yeah, I will be calling and apologising.”

Rancic became the first fashion victim of the Oscars with her Australian designer dress breaking halfway through her live red carpet commentary.
“I feel princess-y – a girl deserves to feel like a princess once in a while,” Rancic said of the embellished tulle creation earlier in the night.
Sebastian’s gowns have graced the Grammys and Golden Globes red carpet and been worn in the past by Michelle Bridges and Sonia Kruger.
The designer’s Facebook page quickly filled with messages of congratulations and praise for the beautiful stone-coloured dress, which Rancic will wear for the duration of the six-hour live stream.

There was talk the 38-year-old would wear Alex Perry on the red carpet after choosing one of his gowns for this year’s Grammys.
“I tried about ten; I’ve been looking at everyone from Badgley Mishka to even your friend Alex
Perry — he’s sent over some gorgeous gowns, so now it’s just deciding,” the Fashion Police presenter told Confidential last week ahead of the awards.
Rancic, who will visit Sydney next month for Westfield commitments, also said she was a huge fan of Australian designers with Sass and Bide and Zimmermann among her favourites.
“There are so many great designers there doing unique things and I’m really curious to come to Australia and found out what’s behind that,” she said.
