Alexandra Grant on the woke reason she doesn’t dye her hair

Keanu Reeves’ girlfriend – Alexandra Grant – dyed her hair “every colour” under the sun, until she had a revelation.

Keanu Reeves may be the nicest guy on Earth

When Keanu Reeves and his new girlfriend Alexandra Grant walked the red carpet together for the first time last month, there were two visceral reactions from the world.

The first was depressing – shock that a man in power in Hollywood would date someone close to his own age (Reeves is 55 and Grant is 46).

The second was, wow, would you look at that fabulous grey hair.

Now, Grant has shared why she’s bucked the norm, refusing to dye her hair and conform to “beauty standards”.

In a post on Instagram, the Los Angeles-based artist shared that a new study published in the International Journal of Cancer found chemical straighteners and permanent hair dyes may be associated with an increased risk for breast cancer.

“Wow. Today’s news … The numbers are staggering, especially for womxn of colour,” she wrote on Instagram, using “womxn” to be inclusive of women of colour and trans women).

“I went grey prematurely in my early 20s … and dyed my hair every colour along the way until I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes any more. In my 30s I let my hair turn ‘blonde’.

“I love and support that every womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age. But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards … then let’s talk about those beauty standards. Love to all womxn!”

Fair point, well made.

She’s not the only woman embracing her natural colour.

Pinterest reported a 879 per cent uptick in people searching “going grey” from 2017 to 2018.

With actor Grant paving the way for grey-haired dames and other celebrities, like Helen Mirren, Katie Holmes and Chrissy Teigen either showing their grays or talking about them proudly, it seems a sparkly-haired revolution is upon us.
