eBay app turns Facebook likes into Christmas wishlist

A NEW app tells you what to buy your loved ones for Christmas based on what they like on Facebook.

FACEBOOK and eBay aim to take the pain out of Christmas shopping with an algorithm which calculates the best present to buy loved ones based on their "likes" on social media.

eBay has created the app at http://ebaygiftengine.com.au which lets you nominate which of your Facebook contacts you are shopping for.

The algorithm will then analyse their likes to present a shopping list of ideas.

If your Facebook mates tend to "like" strange things out of a sense of irony, then they'll be in for an especially big surprise on Christmas Day.

eBay Australia says it expects to sell more than 13 million items from ebay.com.au in the month leading up to Christmas.
