If you’re in the market for a new smartphone, pre-orders have just opened for Samsung’s latest Galaxy trio.
Announced alongside four Galaxy Book 3 laptops (which don’t appear to be coming to Australia) at today’s Unpacked event, the S23 line is headed by the Galaxy S23 Ultra and rounded out by a slightly smaller Galaxy S23+ and a base Galaxy S23 model.
All three models will feature faster chips, upgraded cameras and better batteries, with prices starting at $1,349 for the Galaxy S23, $1,649 for the Galaxy S23+ and $1,949 for the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Below, we’ve outlined the key takeaways for each new device as well as where to get the best pre-order deal.
Galaxy S23 Ultra
An upgrade on last year’s flagship model, the Galaxy S23 Ultra arrives in a similar, if slightly flatter, design to its predecessor. It has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x Infinity-O QHD+ touchscreen, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 5,000mAh battery, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,750 nits. S Pen integration and facial recognition have been carried over from last year’s model, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor has also been included.
The biggest upgrade for this year, though, lies in the rear quad-camera system, which boasts a huge 200MP Adaptive Pixel sensor, along with a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP telephoto lens. Samsung is also introducing its first Super HDR selfie camera on the Galaxy S23 series, which will see a jump from 30fps to 60fps for better front-facing photos and videos.
Galaxy S23 and S23+
The S23 and S23+ are meanwhile fairly similar in design, featuring smaller 6.1-inch and 6.6-inch displays respectively. Each model runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and has an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,750 nits. The rear camera setups are also the same, with each phone featuring a 50MP wide lens, 12MP ultra-wide lens and 10MP telephoto lens.
The biggest difference between the two is a larger battery on the S23+, along with a 512GB storage option (as opposed to 256GB on the base S23).
The Galaxy S23 series comes in four nature-inspired colourways of Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender.
Exclusive colour options of Lime and Graphite for the Galaxy S23 and S23+, and Lime, Graphite, Red and Sky Blue for the S23 Ultra, are also available through the Samsung site.
