Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 and Fold3: Where to pre-order the hotly anticipated new phones

Samsung announced yesterday the next version of the much-hyped Galaxy Z flip phone — the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Fold3 — would be hitting Aussie shores on September 10. And both models are now available to pre-order.
According to Samsung, the new foldable smartphones have been built with customer feedback in mind. New features include water resistance (you can take it in the rain or have it when you’re poolside), a more robust design, stylus compatibility and a lighter model, setting the two devices apart from their predecessor.
Plus, these new phones are tough. Both models are made with the strongest aluminium ever used on a smartphone, as well as a specialised glass to help protect the device from scratches and drops. Samsung has also used a new protective film on the main screens that’s more durable than earlier versions.
Both phones have two screens – the Fold3 folds open horizontally to reveal a tablet-like display, while the Flip3 opens vertically to reveal a standard smartphone-like display.
The Galaxy Z Fold3 is the more premium offering coming with a price tag of $2,499 for 256GB of storage or $2,649 for 512GB (both options have 12GB of memory). The phone (which is available in black, green or silver) has a cover screen that is 6.4 inches and acts as the display on a standard smartphone.
It then opens out to a 7.6 inch main display. The screens are 29% brighter than that of its predecessor and use less energy at the same time. This device is the first in Samsung’s Galaxy Z range that’s compatible with the brand’s S Pen, and it’s also the first phone to have an Under Display Camera, meaning pixels have been applied to the top of the camera so that when you’re watching something or in an app, you’ll get use of the entire screen. Budding or expert photographers will also love the Fold3’s Dual Preview function that allows you and the person you’re taking a photo of to see the preview image at the same time, as well as the Capture & View tool that lets you preview shots on the left side of the screen while capturing them on the right.
The Galaxy Z Flip3 starts at $1,499 for 128GB of storage, going up to $1,599 for 256GB (both models have 8GB of memory). It’s available in a range of colours, too, including black, cream, green, and lavender, as well as light pink, white and grey which are available exclusively via the Samsung online store.
The Flip3’s cover screen is 1.9 inches (four times bigger than its predecessor) and then opens out to a main screen of 6.7 inches. The cover screen has been designed to allow users to view all the important things like messages, notifications, weather and daily step count without having to open the phone and the screen’s wallpaper can also be matched to the new Galaxy Watch4 or Watch4 Classic for those of you who enjoy a matching moment. New camera features include Flex Mode for Instagram-worthy selfies that can be taken hands-free, and Quick Shot mode which allows for hands-free pictures and videos to be taken from the cover screen.
