WHY IS IT CALLED BOXING DAY?
It’s said the term ‘Boxing Day’ first came to light in the 1800s when the wealthy would give their servants a day off and hand them a boxed gift. Now, December 26, the day following Christmas, is best known as one of the biggest sales events in our country. According to Monash University research released recently, two-thirds of Aussie shoppers will be delaying their festive spending until Boxing Day to take advantage of bargains.
WHAT BRANDS PARTICIPATE IN BOXING DAY SALES?
If you’re in need of updating your wares across categories like tech, electronics, home, beauty and fashion, you’re in luck – many retailers in these spaces will be offering discounts. From The Iconic, Adore Beauty, Amazon Australia, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys and more, there will be plenty of bargains to score.
ARE BOXING DAY DEALS REAL?
Boxing Day will definitely serve up some incredible bargains but, as with any online deal you come across, it’s important to do your due diligence so you don’t end up getting scammed. Shopping scams aren’t as rare as you think, in 2019, 8,000 Australians reported “$4 million reported loss” from online rorts to the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission. Protect yourself by shopping from reputable sites and being very wary of too-good-to-be-true shopping deals sent to you via unsolicited emails and via social media.
