Taking up to 20 per cent off flights, you can hightail it to Europe for under $1200 return.

Originating in the USA, Black Friday is an annual sales event that occurs the Friday after Thanksgiving. It's seen as the official "kick-off" to the Christmas shopping season.

In the past, it was a bricks and mortar sale sale where shoppers would line out the doors to grab heavily marked down items.

Today, it's a global event that you can shop online and is one of the biggest sale events in Australia. 

What date are the Black Friday sales in 2024?

This year's Black Friday is on November 29, 2024. It falls annually on the last Friday of November. 

While officially the sale runs for a day, over the years the sale has exploded to encompass the entire month of November, as well as the three days after Black Friday, also known as Cyber Weekend and Cyber Monday.

How long do Black Friday sales last?

Officially Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals last from Friday November 29, 2024 until Monday December 2, 2024. However, stores may choose to extend their sale dates as long as they like.

How can I make the most of the Black Friday sales?

As a professional shopper and deal hunter, these are my top tips to shopping the Black Friday sales:

• Make wishlists: Before the sale even begins, start making wish lists at your favourite retailers. You'll then have everything in your carts ready to hit "buy" when the discounts land.
• Shop around: Thousands of deals will be buzzing about over Black Friday and some will be repeat offenders. If there's something you have on your shopping list, do a quick search to see if another store is selling it for less. PS - I'll be aiming to keep the cheapest options on this list of deals to help you out.
• If the price is right, don't wait for Black Friday: This is mostly true for travel purchases like flights and hotel stays where there's a finite number of seats or rooms available. Yes, prices may drop when Black Friday does but by then your desired travel dates may be booked out.
• Team up with mates to save on shipping costs: I hate having to buy more just to get free shipping. Chat with your friends to see if you can bundle your items to meet the minimum spend for free delivery.
• Know your returns policies: Shopping events and impulse purchases go hand-in-hand. Before you get too shop-happy read the returns policy and make sure you can return your items in case you realise they're not quite right.
