Picture the scene … you’re enjoying a wood-fired style pizza in the great outdoors on a camping trip, at the park, the beach or in your own backyard.

Sounds hard right? If you’ve ever tried to make proper, blistered-crust, wood-fired-style pizza in a regular, home oven, you know it’s a struggle. Let alone having a go on a camp ground hotplate or a mobile barbie.

Enter the Gozney Tread Pizza Oven, a portable pizza oven designed to crank out pro-level pies wherever you are. But is it worth the price tag?

WHAT MAKES THE GOZNEY TREAD SPECIAL?

The Tread is a powerful, fast-heating, and quick-cooling pizza oven built for adventure. Marketed as the ‘world’s most portable pizza oven’ - think of it as the 4WD of its kind – rugged, reliable and designed to perform no matter where you are or what the weather’s doing.

Made from aluminium and steel, it’s durable enough for the outdoors. It reaches 500°C in just 15 minutes and cooks pizzas in under a minute, so you’re spending more time eating and less time waiting.

And it’s not just for pizza – you can sear steaks, roast vegetables, or even bake bread. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to level up their al fresco dining game.

Really, it’s for everyone. While the advertising, how-to videos, and social media around the Gozney Tread may lean heavily into outdoorsy, bloke-coded imagery, I couldn’t help but wonder – would I, a beard-free, SUV-driving toddler mum, the polar opposite of its target market, love it as much as I’d hoped? Thankfully, my concerns were unfounded – I hadn’t accidentally been added to the wrong group chat.

HOW EASY IS IT TO SET UP THE GOZNEY TREAD?

Setting up the Gozney Tread is fairly straightforward. I got all the gear to go with it, so when nine boxes arrived, I felt a bit intimidated, but it turned out to be surprisingly easy.
The clips on the telescopic stand, which adjust the legs, were tough to open (and I am pretty strong).

My partner had to step in, which gave me flashbacks to the bro-heavy advertising, but that also means it’s sturdy essential given the high heat this oven reaches.

The stand includes a built-in level vial to help ensure you’re on even ground – important for both safety and performance. You’ll also need a new gas bottle. Ours had lasted two years, but it wouldn’t attach to the Gozney. Once it’s set up, it’s as simple as firing up a barbecue.

STEPS FOR FIRING UP THE GOZNEY TREAD:

Attach the gas bottle – It runs on LPG, just like a BBQ.

Preheat – Give it 30 minutes for the pizza stone to become fully heated.

Start cooking – Once that stone is blazing hot, you’re good to go. A pizza takes around 30 seconds to cook.

WHO SHOULD BUY THE GOZNEY TREAD?

The Gozney Tread is perfect for outdoor adventurers, campers, road trippers and anyone who loves cooking outside.

Pizza purists will appreciate the high heat that ensures a crisp, perfectly cooked crust – no more floppy, undercooked bases.

Backyard entertainers will love how compact it is, making it easy to set up on a table and impress guests with quick, delicious pizzas.

Despite all the 4x4s, tattoos and beards in the hype content surrounding the Tread yes, it is even suited to mums who appreciate gorgeous design and a good pizza.

This oven gives both in spades. It’s so good looking – seriously swoonworthy and well designed. Even the copywriting on the boxes it comes is in schmick.

It’s a luxury gadget that delivers in both style and performance.

HOW EASY IS IT TO CLEAN THE GOZNEY TREAD?

Cleaning the Gozney Tread is pretty straightforward. The inside is self-cleaning – just heat it up to over 500ËšC, and any food residue will burn off in about three hours.

To clean the stone, you simply burn off any leftover residue and use a dry brush. A damp cloth is enough to keep the exterior fresh.

Top tip: to keep it in tip top condition, you need to store it properly – covered and protected from rain.

HOW LONG WILL A GOZNEY TREAD LAST?

With solid construction and Gozney’s five-year warranty, this isn’t a buy-it-and-replace-it gadget. If looked after, it should last for years, making it a solid investment for pizza lovers.

However, the exterior does scratch easily, so bear that in mind when setting up – put it on top of the plentiful cardboard it comes in – learn from my mistakes!

FINAL VERDICT: IS THE GOZNEY TREAD WORTH IT?

If you love a good gadget, outdoor cooking and are serious about pizza, the Gozney Tread is absolutely worth it. It delivers exceptional results in a compact, go-anywhere package.

At 13.5kg, plus a gas bottle, it’s not the lightest – so consider how easy it’ll be for you to carry. Gozney offers a specially designed carry bag, which is worth the investment if you’ll be hauling it from your vehicle to your chosen al fresco pizza spot.

It’s not cheap, and accessories add to the cost, but for consistent, restaurant-quality pizza outdoors? This is as good as it gets.
