BEST OVERALL STAND MIXER – EDITOR’S PICK
Sunbeam Mixmaster HeatSoft Planetary Stand Mixer MXM7000WH, $499, The Good Guys
Tried and Tested by Tahnee-Jae Lopez-Vito, Shopping Writer
Can’t figure out why your cakes keep coming out dry? (Spoiler: butter really is better when it’s added at room temperature.) Thankfully, Sunbeam just introduced the must-have ingredient for foolproof baking. Unlike other mixers, the Mixmaster HeatSoft Planetary Mixer contains HeatSoft technology so you can quickly soften butter to room temperature or melt chocolate straight from the mixing bowl for precisely delicious results with minimal mess.
For someone who isn’t exactly the greatest baker, the Sunbeam stand mixer seemed a little intimidating at first but it didn’t take long to figure everything out. The HeatSoft function really did make it easy to soften butter in no time, and melting chocolate was just as simple.
I also especially loved how well the ScrapeMaster Spatula Beater scraped the bowl and made the process move along more smoothly. The stylish and high quality build is another pro worth mentioning, along with its easy to clean design.
However, making pizza dough and bread seemed a little tough for the machine. The dough still turned out well, but the noise of the motor was a little concerning. Although this might be down to the 600W motor.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TILT-HEAD AND BOWL-LIFT STAND MIXER?
Tilt-head mixers are fantastic if you want to use a wide variety of attachments. The head easily tilts back, allowing you to twist the accessory onto the base before bringing it forward and locking the head back in place.
Bowl-lift mixers are great for handling heavier mixtures, such as bread, and other tougher recipes that need a more powerful motor and sturdy base. Unlike with tilt-head stand mixers, the bowl in a bowl-lift stand mixer is attached to two arms. You can swap out accessories by moving the lever, which lowers the bowl (rather than pull the head back).
WHAT IS THE BEST SIZE STAND MIXER?
More Coverage
For everyday cooking and baking at home, a stand mixer with a bowl capacity between 4.8L and 5.6L is ideal. This should be fine for most recipes, although you might want to opt for something on the larger end if you plan to make bread or create large batches regularly.
