What is the process for reviewing and including products?
Our content is based on a range of different types of research – the team’s first hand experience with products, hours of research (ever wondered who reads those product manuals? That’s us) or interviews with trusted experts. While we can’t test and review every product in every category, our team is constantly trialling new and popular products to answer the question – what’s it really like? This means putting products to the test in everyday life, using them just like you would and sharing our experiences.

We also spend hours researching products to find the features we think will make life easier (dishwasher safe is always at the top of our list) and those we don’t (we’re looking at you confusing instructions). All of this information is distilled into our easy to read Pros and Cons Lists and What You Need To Know section.

Why do you include multiple products rather than one recommendation?
We pick products from well-known and reputable brands that are known for reliability, good customer service and that can be easily sourced by Australian shoppers. There is always a range of products in different sizes, styles and price points because we know the “best” product will differ depending on your needs and budget.
We link to many of Australia’s best-known brands and retailers and international sellers. When you click on or buy a product through one of our links we may receive a commission from the retailer.

Does news.com.au checkout make money from reviews?
Our shopping articles are free to read and share. We may receive payments for publishing our content and commissions when you purchase through links in articles. We receive it only if you don’t return the product.

Why should I trust recommendations made by news.com.au checkout?
It’s our mission to be the most trusted online shopping destination in Australia. Our online shopping-obsessed team of specialty shopping writers and editors are all experts in their particular field.

Why are the prices on articles sometimes different from the retailer’s site?
We are constantly updating articles to ensure prices and availability are up to date, however pricing and stock levels change quickly, so you should always confirm information independently on the retailer’s site.
