Socks. They're a wardrobe staple and a must for keeping feet cosy, comfortable and clean. But they're also the cause of one of my biggest pet peeves: a sock that slips down.
Anyone who's experienced this will know exactly what I mean. It's uncomfortable, annoying and has been the reason I've thrown dozens of otherwise perfectly good socks away.
Then, I discovered cult brand Paire and their high-tech socks.
Launched in 2020, quickly garnered a following with their perfectly comfortable socks that didn't itch, blister and or slip down.
"Over 500,000 steps and elevation of more than 8000m…the socks were perfect every single day of the journey," raves one avid hiker who tackled the Coast to Coast Walk in Paire.
"The cushioning is only where it's needed, so there is no excess bulk on the top of the foot," she says. Plus, "the organic cotton mixed with the merino makes for a cooler sock than merino alone."
Called Supreme CoolBlend, this patented textile is not only keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter, it's also moisture-wicking and odour-preventing.
In other words, it resists smells.
Naturally I was sceptical of this claim. Surely a sock made from warm wool would 1) make me sweat even more, and 2) soak all that nasty stuff up?
Surprisingly, not. Well, not so much.
Trialling both the ankle socks (from $24) and the more breathable active ankle socks ($24) on my evening sprints, they've made my feet feel toasty, but never damp or uncomfortable.
Upon giving them the whiff test after, the most I'd ever smell was a faint hint of foot odour, but nothing so unbearable that I'd be embarrassed to walk in them around others.
What's more surprising is that they've been so ridiculously comfy I've found myself wearing them everywhere and anywhere. Which is a big deal coming from someone who makes it her mission to shed her socks the moment she walks through the front door.
FYI: a hidden perk from doing this is that my heels have never felt so baby-soft.
For active folks, I can confirm that the elastic is strong and snappy and stays up all day long thanks to a 90 degree ankle design.
The active ankle socks even have a clever ankle tab, on top of arch support and extra heel cushioning, to keep you zippy and grippy as you move.
With over 1100 five-star reviews for the ankle sock alone, I'm not the only one who has raised their sock game with Paire.
"Love them. They don't slip, they don't smell. Best socks I have purchased in a long time," says one fan of the active sock.
At $24 a pair they're right on the money for a high-tech sock you'll be walking in for years. Plus, you can save up to 10 per cent when you buy them in bundles.
Go on, you know you want to.
Since breaking into the market, Paire has released 24 products, including various sock styles, underwear, clothes and accessories, and patented five skin-loving textiles including the incredible Supreme CoolBlend.
