Up until a month ago, my Corgi Oodie was my go-to comfort outfit. But now it has a little competition.

Don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing quite like the OG oversized wearable hoodie that got so many of us through Covid and every winter since. It’s just that the team from The Oodie has now taken the concept to next level comfort with two exciting new creations that cover all weathers.

Firstly, there’s the Oodie Onesie, an all-in-one blanket that’s like having a personal heater with you at all times (minus the monthly power bills). Priced at $119, with an introductory discount, it’s a bargain at just $99

And, for the warmer weather, there’s the Oodie Geo Shapes Romper, a playsuit, which – despite the name – is not just for sleeping in, in my opinion, but for anything from relaxing at home or running errands. Normally $99, it’s launching for just $79.

Unlike other sleep tees, this is an all-in-one jumpsuit with a front zipper, hood and sash tie around the waist

WHY WE REVIEWED THE ONESIE AND SLEEP TEE

As a busy mum and writer, I spend a lot of time at home, working, cooking, cleaning or on the rare occasion relaxing in front of the TV. I’m always in need of comfy, cosy loungewear that still allows me to get stuff done. And since our house is quite cold (we really need to upgrade our heating), I have to rug up, especially on the days I work from home.

So, unsurprisingly, when the opportunity arose to put these new products to the test, I put my hand up faster than it takes to say, “Where’s my Oodie?”. And as the weather recently switched from balmy autumn warmth to something that looked and felt more like winter, the timing was excellent.

HOW WE REVIEWED THE ONESIE AND SLEEP TEE

I wore both items around the house, on and off, over a two-week period while doing a range of different activities, such as working from home, house cleaning, cooking, reading, watching TV – basically any sort of household activity. The Geo Shapes Romper, I also wore to bed and as a dressing gown after showering.

WHAT’S THE OODIE ONESIE LIKE TO WEAR?

The first thing I noticed about this product, was the soft and plushy fabric that’s literally like wearing velvet against your skin. The first time I put it on, I melted into the softness and felt instantly warm and cosy. Like wearing a heated blanket or carrying around my own personal heater.

I was surprised to see that the onesie doesn’t have the same sherpa fleece lining as the original Oodie. It’s much thinner and more lightweight, which actually suits me perfectly. In some situations, I find my OG Oodie is a little hot and heavy and can slow my energy right down. While this is great for watching TV or relaxing at the end of the day, it’s not always suitable for working or carrying out household activities. Wearing the Onesie, I still feel super warm and snug, but also more energised for work and able to move around more easily. Plus, it covers the whole body, legs included, which I love as my legs are often the part of me that gets the most cold.

HOW DOES THE OODIE ONESIE FIT?

With a generous front zipper opening, I found this onesie a snap to pull on and do up. There are elasticated cuffs at both wrists and ankles to keep warmth in (or push up if you need to wash the dishes). Plus, the wrist cuff features a hole for the thumb, creating a fingerless glove situation, so perfect if, like me, you get cold hands while tapping on the keyboard.

I tried size S/M, and for me, this was relaxed and roomy – just what you want in loungewear. Interestingly, there is a back opening, not something you see in every onesie but a handy feature none-the-less that means not having to strip off when visiting the bathroom. An elastic cinchable waist closes this up and also customises the fit, so you don’t feel like you’re wearing a sack.

The Onesie also features a cosy sherpa-lined hood, which I personally didn’t think was necessary. Until I had to get something from the car on a cold and rainy evening and the hood became my new best friend. There are also two side pockets, which again I wasn’t sure were needed. Then I realised I could keep my glasses on my person at all times, instead of leaving them in the laundry, the bedroom, the kitchen and spending ten minutes trying to find them. So now I’m very much in favour of the oversized pockets.

THE OODIE ONESIE: MY FINAL VERDICT

I have to say, I’m in love. Wearing the Onesie during evenings and on days I work from home has been an absolute treat. It offers all-over warmth and snugness, yet still lightweight and easy to wear.

When I trialled it over the entirety of a cold and rainy weekend, my family was more than envious. Even the dog looked at me a little more fondly, and constantly followed me around, ready to jump on my lap at a moment’s notice. My husband and kids kept putting on the heater, I kept turning it off. I simply didn’t need both the heater and Onesie, and as I said before, our house is extremely cold.
Naturally, the family now all want their own Oodie Onesie, which is great news. Not only will everyone be warm and snug for winter, but there’ll be no need to upgrade our heating. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a significant drop in our power bills.

Highly recommended.

WHAT’S THE OODIE GEO SHAPES ROMPER LIKE TO WEAR?

The Oodie team has already produced a super popular range of sleep tees. Now they’ve gone the one step further and created an all-in-one version, which looks like a playsuit with a front zipper, a tie waist and a hood.

First up, as with the Onesie, the fabric is a huge drawcard. Made from 97 per cent bamboo cotton, it’s lightweight, cool and breathable, with a silky, buttery feel that is heavenly against your skin.

With short sleeves and legs in a bright multi-coloured pattern, the design is so cute and wearable, it doesn’t even look like pyjamas.

To be honest, you could totally wear them out of the house (hello, school drop off!). It even has a large front pocket, which comes in handy for those everyday essentials you need at the ready such as phone, cards or keys.

HOW DOES THE OODIE GEO SHAPES ROMPER FIT?

I tried out the size S/M, which was generous, however I was able to nip in the waist with the tie belt for a more fitted look.

I wasn’t sure that the Romper would work for sleeping. It has a lot of fabric, including a hood and a tie belt and, as a hot sleeper, I’m particular about my pjs. However I gave it a go, (without the tie belt) – and was pleasantly surprised.

The fabric was so comfy and I appreciated its natural fibres and cooling quality.

As it’s an all-in-one affair, I didn’t have to worry about my pj top riding up. I also found it perfect for throwing on after I get out of the shower or pottering around the house.

THE OODIE GEO SHAPES ROMPER: MY FINAL VERDICT

For me, the Geo Shapes Romper is ideal lounging attire. The design looks more like a relaxed and fun summer ensemble than a sleep tee, but the silky cotton feel is perfect for a blissful night of slumber. For someone like me, who spends a lot of time in pjs and loungewear, it is a welcome addition to my wardrobe. Except my 12 year-old has now fallen in love with it, so I probably won’t see it again. Although that’s a great review in itself.

A definite thumbs up from me.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING ONESIES

While reviewing both these onesies, we took the following factors into account:

Material

Materials used for onesies vary, the key is to find something so soft and snuggly that you never what to take it off.

Feel

A onesie is a comfort buy so you want to choose one that feels soft, cosy and totally comfortable

Features

Onesies come with different features to consider. You might want to have pockets for those daily essentials. Some designs have side pockets while others have one oversized front pocket. Some have long sleeves and legs, while others such as the Sleep Tee are short in both leg and arm. Other features to look out for are a hood and elasticated cuffs at wrist and ankles.

Pattern

There is a huge range of choice out there. Block colours, themes, patterns. This will depend on your personal taste. Just make sure you love it as you’ll be spending a lot of time in it.

Care

Take note of washing instructions. Some onesies are machine washable, some have to be washed by hand, others in cold water only.

Weight

Onesies can vary in weight and thickness so make sure it’s not too heavy for you and your climate otherwise it might get too hot and uncomfortable.

Budget

Work out how much you want to spend on loungewear. Do you want to splash out on something super luxe or find a budget-friendly option?

CAN I WEAR MY OODIE ONESIES OUTSIDE?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. Neither of these onesies actually look like sleepwear or at-home loungewear. You could easily wear either out and about and no one would look twice – except in envy.

HOW DO I LOOK AFTER MY OODIE ONESIEs?

Fortunately, all the products from The Oodie are machine washable so keeping them clean is easy. Getting them off to pop in the machine is another story altogether.
