FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why do silk pyjamas cost more than satin pyjamas?
While satin can look similar to silk and be an affordable alternative, the two fabrics are quite different.
“Satin is a totally different fabrication that often confused with silk but the differences are big,” explains Papinelle founder and CEO Renae James.
“Satin PJs are most often made from 100 per cent polyester which are synthetic not natural …
Satin’s synthetic nature makes it cheaper to produce but more harmful to the environment.
“Silk is a natural fibre that is more delicate and labour intensive making it luxe but also more expensive.”
What are the benefits of silk pyjamas?
“Silk is a natural, renewable fabric that offers thermoregulating perks. Silk can be worn through all seasons – keeping you comfortably cool during the warmer nights and cosying you up during the colder months, it’s a win-win!” Ms James said.
“As a bonus, many people claim silk prevents wrinkles so adding a silk sleep mask or pillowcase could also be anti-ageing.”
What are the benefits of satin pyjamas?
Bras N Things head of product Jessica Lauppe-Guy told news.com.au that satin pyjamas are beneficial choice from both a fashion and comfort perspective.
“Lightweight and soft against your skin, the cami and short styles in particular are perfect for the summer heat,” she said.
“Sleeping with satin products has also been proven to be better than other materials, such as cotton, with satin being much better for your hair and skin.”
Satin’s “super lightweight and silky smooth” feel also makes them “extremely comfortable for sleep”, Ms Lauppe-Guy added.
“The long matching sets are also trending at the moment, with people wearing matching satin sets as outerwear, pairing with trendy sneakers or dressing up with heels, and some cute accessories to match,” she said.
“The material feels elevated so they are multipurpose, can be worn as from bed to bar.”
How do you wash silk pyjamas?
Ms James said Papinelle had worked hard to produce silk pyjamas that are “luxe, soft and so comfortable” while still being easy to wash.
“Our silk PJs can be washed in a delicate machine wash but we do recommend line drying them,” she said. “Pop them in a wash bag for a little extra TLC.”
How do you wash satin pyjamas?
Ms Lauppe-Guy recommends washing satin sleepwear on a “cold, delicate machine wash”.
