Almost half of women will be affected by hair loss throughout their lives, according to The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

But it’s not just older women who are affected. Roughly one in two women will show signs of hair loss by age 50, finds Health Direct.

And there’s more to it than simply losing hair on your head. Studies show that it can lead to difficulties with confidence and self-esteem.

No one understands this better than VIDAGLOW Founder and TYPEBEA Co-Founder, Anna Lahey.

“My relationship with my hair has been a rollercoaster,” the 36-year-old tells news.com.au checkout.

During her four pregnancies, Anna found she had issues with her hair.

“When you’re going through such a transformative time becoming a mother, dealing with thinning hair on top of it all can be a knock to your confidence,” she says.

That is why she joined forces with international pop star Rita Ora to launch TYPEBEA, a new haircare brand focused on hair health.

“Rita and I met in 2021 at our rebrand event for Vida Glow and instantly bonded,” Anna says. “Rita has such an entrepreneurial spirit and was curious about my story.

“That conversation opened a floodgate of shared experiences.

“We felt passionate about creating something that would deliver results but also instil confidence in people who were also struggling with their hair.”

The brand is not yet six months old and in that time has gone from strength to strength, says Anna. Selling out in their first few weeks at Sephora as well as securing a retention rate of 55 per cent on their website is a “testament to the results customers experience”, Anna says.

So what is TYPEBEA? I’ve been trialling the whole range for almost a month now to really put it to the test. Read on for my review below.

1-MINUTE REVIEW: TYPEBEA

What You Need To Know

First things first, let’s set the scene. I have fairly thick, long, naturally wavy/curly hair. Essentially, in my opinion, I won the genetic lottery when it comes to hair (Although I didn’t always think that growing up when all I wanted was dead straight hair like my friends).

In saying this, while I am definitely lucky when it comes to my hair, the current state of my hair is thanks to a lot of work and prioritising my hair health. Like a lot of people who grew up with blonde hair that started to darken as they got older, I’ve started dying it in the past few years to get back to my blonde roots. Bleach is certainly not the best thing for your hair so I’ve really been trying to do everything I can (except to stop dying my hair!) to ensure my hair stays healthy. Enter: TYPEBEA.

I’ve been using the brand for roughly three weeks now and my hair already feels healthier. And a perhaps controversial opinion but my favourite product isn’t the best-selling G•1 Overnight Boosting Peptide Serum but the G•4 Hydra-Gloss Treatment. I love how soft my hair feels after popping this in. Plus, it smells amazing.

The G•1 Overnight Boosting Peptide Serum is the brand’s current bestseller and also a favourite of Anna’s.

The results that our customers have shared with me since launch have been overwhelmingly positive,” she says.

It is these results that, according to Anna, set the brand apart from the hundreds of other haircare brands on the market.

Personally I have really loved using the Overnight Boosting Peptide. I like how lightweight it is and that I can apply it whenever and not worry about any greasy residue, unlike other hair serums I’ve tried in the past. I found that it also helped enhance the volume and body of my hair too.

Online, the product has dozens of five-star reviews from happy customers.

“A beautiful serum, great for every day use! Doesn’t make your hair greasy but have already noticed improvement in my scalp and hair health,” wrote one five-star review.

When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, like a lot of women out there, I’ve tried dozens throughout my lifetime. Growing up, I had very oily skin and hair so finding something that wouldn’t exacerbate that was the main goal. These days, I’m thankfully less oily but I still need something that properly cleans my hair and scalp without stripping it and making my hair feel lacklustre and dry.

Working in beauty, there are lots of rules about hair maintenance that I’ve come across but one that I’ve found that does work for me is shampooing twice. I find the first shampoo works to break down any build-up of oil and dirt while the second actually get into my strands with the product and properly cleans it. This definitely worked with the G•2 Strength + Length Shampoo. With the first, I couldn’t work up much of a lather but by going in a second time the lather started almost instantly.

For the conditioner, when it comes to my curls, I need something super nourishing and hydrating to not only help my curls keep their shape but also to help me brush out my knots. In the shower, when my hair is wet is the only time I brush my curls so I need something that will help the brush gently slide through my hair without causing too much damage. The first time I used the conditioner it didn’t quite get there for me, unfortunately. My hair felt quite brittle and brushing out the tangles was serious work. However, I decided to give it another go and the second time I used the conditioner I really applied a lot more hoping this would work. And, I was right. I was able to easily brush through my hair and I liked how it left my hair feeling soft but not heavy or weighed down.

G•4 Hydra-Gloss Treatment, $50 at TYPEBEA

Ok, this was hands-down my favourite product of the range. This hydrating hair mask strengthened and moisturised my hair in literal minutes. You apply it instead of conditioner and after only a few minutes, you will come back to instantly healthier hair.

It contains a clinically tested dose of biomimetic ceramide to help decrease hair damage, as well as argan oil, avocado oil and shea butter to properly nourish the locks. Plus, it also is made with hyaluronic acid for extra deep hydration. It also pretty much vanished my frizz too. A hair miracle if I ever saw one. If I had to recommend one product from the range, this would definitely be it.
