Back in the early 2000s the words “Trinny and Susannah” were synonymous with one of the biggest reality shows of the decade.

Premiering in 2001, What Not To Wear starred style gurus Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine. The two women would firmly but lovingly steer British women (who had been nominated by their friends and family) into making better fashion choices by overhauling their wardrobes and teaching them how to shop for their body shape.

The BBC show was a huge hit in Australia, with both Trinny and Susannah starring on What Not To Wear for five seasons before going on to appear on several more shows, including Trinny & Susannah Undress.

But fast forward to today and Trinny has left the fashion world behind for one of her other passions: Beauty.

Trinny London launched in 2017 with the plan of (much like how What Not To Wear had with fashion) making makeup and skincare accessible to everyone with easy-to-use products.

Speaking to news.com.au, Trinny said starting her own beauty brand was something she had “always wanted” to do.

“I had been working in TV for 15 years, and then I worked in TV abroad out of England and to Australia for five years after that,” she said.

“I got to a stage where I had met so many women and the first thing they noticed in a makeover was their makeup, because a lot of women get stuck in their makeup and they don’t know what else to.

“The joy of building a brand is you can help so many more women than just doing a TV show and you can have a greater impact on helping them, so it was always something I knew I wanted to do.”

Trinny was inspired to start her own beauty company after seeing women struggle to overhaul their makeup routines.

Trinny struggled with acne throughout her teens and twenties, an experience that made her realise “how compromised skin can really affect your self worth and to give great education around what you can do”.

“When I was developing our range, we have a selection of products that are very good for skin that has got problems with acne or just generally a little compromised in that area,” she explained.

“I think we have a responsibility as a beauty brand to give information and not just sell people products, and I think we’re very good at that.

“A few of our team have had very bad acne and it brought back to me how much it affects your skin.

“I’m really excited by the impact Find Your Balance and Overnight Clarity have on acne prone skin.”

One of the most iconic features of Trinny London’s makeup range are its stackable, cream makeup pots, Eye2Eye and Lip2Cheek.

Trinny came up with the idea after years of decanting her own makeup into little pots “so that it was easier for me to access”.

“It just made life so much easier but they didn’t stack together beautifully. I used to tape them together and this was the item that I had in many a public loo, where I was in a restaurant, and somebody would say, ‘what’s that?’ And I’d say, ‘it’s my makeup bag’, and they would say, ‘where can I buy it?’” she said.

“And I would think, one day, I will make this.”

When it comes to her favourite Trinny London products, Trinny says she does “every element of the skincare religiously”.

“I clean my skin with the balm (Be Your Best) and I use our PHA (Better Off) in the morning. Of all the skincare, Plump Up is probably my ‘couldn’t live without’ product,” she said.

“Even though you should always clean your skin, it (Plump Up) makes such a fundamental, immediate and long-term change on the skin.

“It’s the only one in the range that has that immediate and long term effect – it’s an amazing product.

“I can’t live without BFF SPF, because I have to put SPF on my face every day and I need that tiny evenness of skin tone – even if I just walk out the door.”

(Editor’s note: Remember, with products containing SPF, always read the label. See directions for use. Avoid prolonged exposure in the sun and wear protective clothing, hats and eyewear when exposed to the sun. Frequent reapplication is required for effective sun protection).

“And Lip2Cheek, because I have certain shades like Veebee that I put on my lip, cheek and eye, and then I put some lip balm on top and I’m done for the day. It’s so easy.”
