THE FEATURES: WHAT IS THE GHD CHRONOS?

Priced at $465, the ghd chronos is more expensive than other hair stylers but considering all the benefits, it may just be worth your while.

ghd chief technology officer Rob Milner said the new tool was a “monumental launch” and their “best styler ever”.

”It represents the pinnacle of over 22 years of understanding and mastering how to use heat to style hair,” he told news.com.au checkout.

The “holy grail” chronos is now the “most advanced styler” from ghd, Mr Milner said.

So what exactly makes it so special? It comes equipped with breakthrough HD motion-responsive technology. Now this is something pretty cool – it’s an intelligent algorithm that identifies the users styling motions and reacts by delivering the right amount of power into the plates to maintain the optimum temperature of 185°C.

“Consistently styling at 185°C ensures the right amount of heat goes into the hair to smooth and align the strands delivering up to 85 per cent more shine and two times less frizz in just one pass, without running the risk of overheating the hair and causing extreme heat damage,” Mr Milner said.

Better heat consistency throughout the plates means you’ll get better (and much faster) results from your hair tool.

The ultra-gloss floating places are an easy-glide system, delivering more shine with each and every stroke.

It’s also got a re-engineered wishbone hinge and smooth rounded barrel – something you don’t see from other ghd stylers. This helps you create all sorts of hair styles, whether it be tight curls, loose waves or a silky straight blowout.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HAIR FOR THE GHD CHRONOS

Just like any other styler, you want to make sure your hair is fully dry before going in with heat.

I make sure my hair is brushed and I also like to spritz it with the ghd Bodyguard Heat Protect Spray. You gotta protect those locks!

HOW TO USE THE GHD CHRONOS

Plug in the ghd chronos, turn on the power button that sits inside the styler casing and wait for it to stop flashing – it takes about 20 seconds and that’s when you know the heat is ready to be used.

Like all ghd stylers, the chronos uses ceramic plates operating at 185°C, which the brand says is the optimum temperature for results that don’t cause extreme heat damage.

“This has been proven in the lab, and we’ve found that ghd chronos provides up to three times more breakage protection than a competitor styling working at 235°C, while delivering HD results,” Mr Milner said.

When I used the chronos for the first time, I found it to feel quite small, especially compared to other stylers I’ve used in the past, and extremely lightweight.

This sort of feature is great for those who always seem to get sore arms when styling the back of their head. The styler is super easy to use and get all around your hair.

ghd’s Education Manager ANZ Hayley Pullyn gave us the lowdown on exactly how to achieve both straight and wavy, curly styles with the ghd chronos.

For straight hair:

  1. Brush your section to prepare the hair to pass through the styler.
  2. Take the first section and place chronos towards the scalp and begin to glide the styler down the section.
  3. Repeat these steps until you complete the back of the head.
  4. Taking the same size sections, repeat this at the front of the head.
  5. We recommend a medium speed through each section, to ensure you only need to 1 stroke to achieve the results.
  6. Finish the hair with Sleek Talker Styling Oil for additional smoothness and shine.

For waves and curls:

  1. Brush your section to prepare the hair to pass through the styler.
  2. Take a 2 inch section sizes
  3. Place ghd chronos parallel to the section nose pointing away from the face.
  4. Rotate the styler 180˚ and push the styler in a downwards motion, gliding down the section until you reach the ends.
  5. Continue this technique, always rotating away from the face, swapping hands to ensure both sides are even.
  6. Dress using ghd paddle brush to smooth and polish.

MY VERDICT ON THE GHD CHRONOS: IS IT WORTH BUYING?

The ghd chronos is unlike any other hair tool I’ve tried – it’s so technologically advanced that I am seriously gobsmacked. I never thought I would be recommending a $465 hair styler, but here I am.

The ghd chronos is the ultimate hair tool for professionals and beginners.

It is so unbelievably quick – something I noticed straightaway. The ghd recommended temperature is already set – so there’s no frying your hair – and it kicks in with full force, styling your hair perfectly with just one swipe.

I’ve used the ghd chronos to straighten my hair, give myself a wave, curl my whole head and just my front pieces in a ponytail, and to even flick the ends up for that cute little hair do. Each and every style is so quick and easy, that I seriously cannot get enough.

I also love the plates and the barrel – I’ve noticed a serious reduction in my overall frizz, and I love how the barrel is smooth and curved, making all those curled styles super easy to create and control.

If you’re someone who uses a hair styler regularly, you may want to consider upgrading to the ghd chronos. While it is pricey, this is a purchase you’re not going to regret and I think is the future for all other hair stylers.

It may not be a multi-styler like the Dyson Airwrap but it is nails the one job exceptionally well.

HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO OTHER HAIR STYLERS ON THE MARKET

I have something to admit – I’ve owned the same ghd hair straightener since I was 13 (and I’m currently 26). Yes it’s old, but it still works, and if that doesn’t prove to you how good ghd technology is, then I don’t know what will.

Over the years, I’ve tried a few stylers from other hair tool brands and without naming names, they don’t come close to the power this one tool has.

All I can say is, I am very happy to have tried the new generation of ghd hair stylers. After using the older ones, you can clearly see how much improvement has been made in the technology, how much easier it is for us everyday hair stylists to use, and how much better it is for our hair.
