An Australian model and podcast host is hoping to raise $100,000 to help heal the devastation of the Los Angeles wildfires, saying she had been “inundated” by messages from thousands feeling helpless.

LA fires before and after shots capture heartbreaking reality

Australian model and podcast host Chloe Fisher has launched a fundraiser to support devastated communities in her “second home” of Los Angeles as the city battles horrific wildfires.

The Southern Californian city, and centre of the nation’s film and television industry, has been smashed by an ongoing series of catastrophic fires since January 11, with the two largest believed to have killed at least 10 people and razed more than 10,000 structures.

Setting up a GoFundMe, The Gold Coast resident said she felt a desperate need to take action after receiving thousands of messages.

“I have been inundated with messages by thousands of people, like me, who feel helpless and do not know where to donate,” she said.

“ So I am raising funds to help those impacted by devastating loss, and to help LA get back on track eventually.”

Ms Fisher, the wife of Australian DJ FISHER, kicked in $5,000 towards the target of $100,000, saying the money will be distributed through the platform as cash grants to those impacted by the fire.

Any remaining portions, she said would be donated to wildlife and animal rescue organisations.

In the past 24 hours, it has raised $14,000 from 169 donations.

“LA has become our second home, so we are watching from afar with devastation as so many of our friends and loved ones are impacted by the wildfires in Southern California,” Ms Fisher said.

“The fires have claimed lives, killed beloved pets, destroyed property and California’s beautiful national parks. I, along with most Aussies, feel a desperate need to take action.”

GoFundMe has launched a dedicated hub of verified fundraisers for the fires in California, with a secondary hub for fundraisers aimed at helping Australians impacted by the fires.

The fires have been intensified by dry conditions and powerful winds, with authorities anticipating they will continue burning through the weekend.

At least 180,000 people have been forced to evacuate as the fires tore through some of California’s most recognisable locations.
