IN what is likely to be the most Australian moment ever, former Prime Minister Bob Hawke has skolled a beer in front of dozens of people dressed as Richie Benaud on day two at the SCG test.

The former PM, legendary for his love of a cheeky pint, delighted dozens of cricket fans dressed as Australia's commentary doyen by downing the beer in less than ten seconds.

It's not the first time Mr Hawke, 84, has succumbed to peer pressure at the cricket.

At the same test last year he downed 'one for the country' in front of a crowd of adoring fans.

Mr Hawke famously holds a world record for skolling a yard glass in just 11 seconds - a record he set while a university student in the 1950s.

The incident capped of a great day for Australia at the SCG test as the Aussie XI put England to the sword on day two.

Australia ended the day 4/140 in its second innings, with a lead of 311. Chris Rogers is 73 not out out andGeorge Bailey is on 20.

We can only hope the tradition continues next year.
