2013 ARIA Awards: Tame Impala, Flume win big as Guy Sebastian breaks drought

ELECTRONIC artist Flume and rock travellers Tame Impala confirm their arrival as homegrown superstars while Guy Sebastian finally breaks his drought.

BREAKTHROUGH electronic artist Flume and rock travellers Tame Impala have confirmed their arrival as homegrown superstars while Guy Sebastian finally broke his drought at the 2013 ARIA Awards.

There was a lot of love in the room for Flume, who added Best Male, Dance Album and Breakthrough Artist to his Producer Of The Year award.

Flume, aka Harley Streten, joked he won Best Male and said "the coolest thing is I'm a producer, I don't even sing." Streten, 22, had even researched that no non-singer had ever won the award.

Jeissica Mauboy enjoyed double happiness winning Best Female and having the award presented by her hero Alicia Keys. Mauboy serenaded the US star with a burst of her own hit A Woman's Worth.

Mauboy paid respect to indigenous Australian talent. "Shut the gate, this is so deadly - this award means creating pathways," the proud indigenous woman said.

Tame Impala, who closed the night with their swirling psychedelia and topped international critics lists last year, scored the prestigious Album Of The Year with Lonerism, as well as Best Group and Best Rock Album.

The band made a memorable speech thanking their crew for "doing things while we sitting around eating soft cheese."

Aussie music legend Russell Morris took out the award for Best Blues and Roots album.

Another credible Idol export, Matt Corby, won Song of the Year for Resolution - he won the same public voted award last year for Brother. Corby's acceptance speech lasted a mere 15 seconds.

While Australia's hip-hop community again called for ARIA to rename the Urban category, they were united in their celebration of Illy's win for last year's Bring It Back record.

They may be separated on the home front but Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson were united in the ARIA winner's roll, picking up Best Country Album for Wreck and Ruin.

Music fans voted for One Direction to take out Best International Artist, fresh in their memories after their recent five week tour of Australia.

Fans also decided Samantha Jade's Firestarter clip was the Video Of The Year.
