Melbourne auctions: Buyers, vendors in Ashburton, Ringwood East, collect at online and early auctions

A midweek, online auction helped push a Ringwood East home $100,000 over its reserve in a near-record breaking sale.

Not even Melbourne’s gloomy winter blast could stop buyers across the city from snapping up properties at auction midweek amid fierce competition.

In Ashburton, a “boardroom” auction with six bidders pushed the sale of 14 Samarinda Ave to $2.560m on Wednesday, which was about $200,000 above asking price.

Jellis Craig Boroondara agent Damien David said the luxurious four-bedroom home was built about 10 years prior by the vendors, who were “ecstatic” with the sale.

He said a family who would enjoy the home for decades to come were the lucky buyers.

“They’re a lovely couple moving from Hawthorn East, they’ve got three kids and this will be their 20 year home,” he said.

The size of the property was the biggest attraction, including four large bedrooms, a home office and multiple upstairs and downstairs living areas, Mr David added.

Meanwhile in Ringwood East a 208sq m unit sold more than $100,000 over reserve.

The 2/8 Shasta Ave property was snagged for $660,000 via an online auction on Thursday night, with 14 bidders registered on the day.

Ray White Ringwood agent Cameron Bailey the sale was the “second highest price in Ringwood East for a two-bedroom unit this calendar year.”

“It was a really good price for a unit,” he said.

He added that virtual bidding was still producing stellar results, despite not being necessary anymore.

“The online auction space does just as well, if not better (than in person),” Mr Bailey said.

“We’ve found nothing changed with the amount of registrations and active bidders, we actually find it a little less confronting for the purchasers and a little less stressful for the vendors.”
