‘Affordable’ Fawkner home snapped up by late bidder
A late bidder swooped in on a home in Fawkner on Saturday, stealing the auction — and the keys.
A late bidder took home the keys to a “home that’s been loved and cared for” in Fawkner on Saturday, beating out two other potential buyers at auction.
The once “unloved” now beautifully renovated villa at 1/116 Lynch Road sold for a modest $467,000 in front of a crowd of about 20 people.
The two-bedroom property was called on the market at $430,000 before selling to a first-home buyer — who remained quiet until the last three bids — in less than 15 minutes.

Owners Sam and Nick Saunders, who bought the property in 2017 and had originally listed it for $400,000-$440,000, said they were “so happy” with the result.
The pair spent years fully renovating the property and making it a home for kids Hudson, 3, and Quinn, nine months.
“When we bought the house I’d just found out I was pregnant with our son,” Ms Saunders said.
“It was really unloved, it had been rented out for so long and needed a facelift.
“We did a good portion of the renovating while I was pregnant — my husband is a chippie by trade so he did most of the work.
“We didn’t have a shower just before my son was born, so I would go to the pool and do some laps and have a shower there.
“And since then we’ve done it bit by bit, we knew we wanted to live in it for a few years.”
The young couple, who are making a tree-change to Myrtleford, said it would be “bittersweet” to leave, but that they were looking forward to creating memories in their new home.
“It’s been our first home, we’ve bought our babies home here … but we’re really looking forward to the change,” Ms Saunders said.
“After the year that was we kind of just want to be where we want to be.”
The Fawkner property featured a Hamptons-style kitchen with timber benchtops, modern bathroom with freestanding tub and a self-contained courtyard.
Ray White Brunswick auctioneer Alex Ilyin said the property was “renovated and affordable” and close to public transport, which had made it appealing to a range of buyers.
