Victoria's new Covid rules explained

High vaccination rates and lower case numbers have led to major changes to Victoria’s Covid rules. From mask regulations to isolation requirements, this is what’s changed.

No. Patrons won't need two doses or have to show their vaxx status. The requirement for staff and patrons to check in using the Service Victoria app will also end.

Do I need to show my vaccination status when I eat out?

Masks will no longer be required in primary schools, early childhood, hospitality and retail settings, or at events of any size.

Where can I stop wearing masks?

Mask rules on public transport and airports remain unchanged, along with mandatory face coverings in sensitive health, aged care and justice settings.

Where do I still need to wear a mask?

Yes. Anyone who tests positive for the virus will still be required to isolate for a week.

Do I need to isolate if I get Covid?

No — provided they wear a mask indoors and avoid sensitive settings. They will also need to undertake at least five negative rapid tests over the next seven days.

Do close contacts have to quarantine?

No — plus anyone who has contracted Covid will be exempt from testing and quarantine for 12 weeks afterwards.

Do unvaxxed travellers need to quarantine for seven days?

No. Events with more than 30,000 people will no longer require public health pre-approval to go ahead.

Do large events need special permission to proceed?

No. Vaccine mandates will remain for some groups of workers. These include health, food distribution, emergency services, police and education.

Will vaccine mandates end for all workers?
