THE Singapore neighbourhoods every tourist should visit

It’s always been up there as a contender for our No.1 spot, and with these lively neighbourhoods, it beats the competition hands down.

Known for its food, the hawker centre is a must visit. Save room for dinner on Keong Saik Road, the former red light district. Dine at modern izakaya Neon Pigeon or hit Esquina for Spanish tapas.

Chinatown

Known as the Arab Quarter hookah cafes and cool boutiques are the hallmarks. The focal point is the Sultan Mosque — Singapore’s largest — built in 1824.

Kampong Glam

Expect Hindu temples, restaurants spice-laden curries, and stalls selling  jasmine garlands. The most distinctive landmark is the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple.

Little India

The birthplace of modern Singapore, snap a pic with the Merlion before strolling over Anderson Bridge on to the National Gallery.

Downtown

Marina Bay Sands is synonymous with Singapore. There’s  the 101ha Gardens by the Bay, the Esplanade Theatres, the 165m high Observation Wheel to visit.
